Yesterday, besides the Selayang puppy rescue, we also had a cat emergency. Mas, a rescuer, brought one of her many CNRM-ed cats to our panel vet for treatment of dog-bite.
This is Duke. He is a very gentle cat.
One of the bites.
Dr Vijay says not to worry about any damage to the spinal chord as Duke can still jump and walk around.
Another bite. It doesn’t look that serious, but it may be. There’s a lot of fur covering the bite, and we don’t know the extent of the bite, and which organ may have been bitten into.
Duke finally settled down very nicely on a book, and rested while we humans discuss how best to treat him.
Duke was operated on this evening, and the surgery took longer than expected because there was a lot of fur inside the bite, and Dr Vijay had to spend a lot of time picking out the fur.
Duke is fine now, and recuperating at the clinic.
We are helping Mas with a partial sponsorship of this surgery.

One response to “Cat rescue case”
Duke is an 8-year old CNRM-ed stray (a hand-me-down, actually 🙂 having been handed down from one caregiver to another). His last caregiver had died suddenly and left behind a many CNRM-eds strays. I took over out of sheer compassion.
Last Wednesday, Duke had been badly mauled by a group of stray dogs and suffered several deep wounds. 5 other cats had died. He had been extremely lucky in that the dogs did not manage to give him a vigorous shake to break his spine and tear up major muscles and vital organs (the way dogs usually do to immobilise and kill the prey) because someone had heard the commotion and managed to dash to his rescue in time.
His deep wounds have been cleaned and stitched up and he is still on the drip to drain off toxins from his body. He is still in pain and not eating on his own and today, the vet spotted that one of his wounds was oozing pus of waxy consistency and informed me that he needed to open it up again for draining. So I could not take him home when I had visited him at lunchtime today.
I wish to express my utmost gratitude to kind KY and AnimalCare for their compassion and financial assistance, without which this would not have been possible. May God bless you richly always.
Also, please pray for Duke's complete recovery.
