An SOS from Meiji

First thing this morning, I received an SOS from Meiji.  She was down here in Setapak, and had brought with her, two of Kwai Chee’s puppies.  Meiji suspects both were down with the Parvo virus.

I offered her to bring the puppies for an diagnosis and treatment at our panel vet in Puchong, so off we went – Meiji, Kwai Chee, the two puppies, Ainey and me.

Kwai Chee (on the left), Meiji (in blue) and the two puppies.
Ainey and I were both shocked to hear that some of the cute little puppies we saw the other day at the cemetery (looked after by Kwai Chee) had already died, possibly of the same disease.  We were both very sad to hear this, particularly when we both liked the one with short legs.  It seems she and her sibling have both died, too.
Sigh…these puppies are all dumped at the cemetery by people, and Kwai Chee, out of the goodness of her heart, looks after them.  However, she does not have funds to get them vaccinated.
In our next spay-neuter campaign in Raub, we are sponsoring 60 vaccinations, for both Kwai Chee and Meiji’s puppies and dogs.
According to our vet, both puppies do not stand a good chance at recovering because they are below 6 months of age.  This one (brown and white) has a better chance.  Based on his blood count, he seems stronger than the brown one.
Whatever the prognosis, we have to try, so both puppies are now given a fighting chance.  They have been put on drips and medication.  This is the best we can do for them now.  The rest is up to their own immune system and….destiny?
Our vet says it would only take one week – they will either recover or succumb.
Get well soon, little ones.
Both puppies will be kept in isolation since parvo is contagious and spreads through faecal matter.
The clinic floor was mopped with chlorox after that.
Please get well soon, little puppies.
And please spare a kind thought for these puppies and send them healing energy.
Meiji has a mother and five puppies whom she thinks is also down (possibly with parvo as well).  Our vet in Puchong does not have the space to accommodate them, so I made a few phonecalls and finally located a vet in Klang who can take them tomorrow.
Tomorrow, Meiji will bring the whole family down, and Mandy will handle the case.
After Meiji and Kwai Chee left, we went upstairs to check on Wendy and Tara.
Next posting, please….
