Last night, until after midnight, I was still communicating with some friends on how we could do something constructive to stop (of course this seemed impossible) the Gandhimai Jatra festival which begins today, in Nepal, where thousands of animals would be rounded up and hacked to death, all in the name of sacrifice.
It is atrocious, that in this day and age, there are people who still perform such rites and can believe that the sacrifice of other innocent beings can actually do them any good.
It is going to be a bloodbath for two days.
I learnt that the only thing we can do is perhaps to collect signatures and submit a strong protest to the Nepalese government through its embassy but there was insuffcient time to garner enough signatures given the short notice. To do so after the festival seems quite futile, unless the purpose is to stop the next one.
I also learnt that other concerned groups on ther homefront of Nepal have voiced their protest, but the festival is going to be carried out, nonetheless.
It seems (at this point in time), there is no effective intervention yet.
Please let us spend some moments today, offering our heartfelt prayers to these poor innocent animals so that they may be in a better existence upon meeting their death today, by the hands of such unbelievable cruelty.
And at the same time, let us also offer prayers to those pitiful humans who live in such ignorance, that they may realise the error of their ways, and change.

i would say the same prayers on Hari Raya Haji.
Agree. That's when I stop to consume beef when I watched one of the cow being sacrificed on my TV screen.
And same prayers on Thanksgiving day too.

And also Chinese New Year Eve's non-vege reunion dinners, and non-vege weddings dinners, and non-vege funerals where whole pigs are sacrificed.
There is so much unnecessary sacrifice of animals. If only humans would learn to be contented with enough to eat, enough to use, and do away with all things unnecessary.
It is sometimes all due to greed. Greed for "tasty" (meaty) meals. Greed to appease the "gods" or the dead for one's own benefit. And the poor animals suffer.
Sometimes we cry in protest when we hear of events like this Gandhimai Jatra festival, but we forget that daily sacrifices are happening at the slaughterhouses all over the world. Billions of chickens are bred to be slaughtered daily for food. More, during the festive seasons.
