Abby goes home…finally!!

Dear everyone,

For those of you who have been following Abby’s news – this is the day we’ve all been waiting for!

For those who do not know who Abby is or what she had gone through, here’s a quick summary:

1.  Abby is a 13 year-old mixed Cocker who was dumped by her owner at the shelter to be euthanised.  Abby was not sick at all.  She was just old.  Her owner did not want her anymore.
2.  A rescuer took her away from the shelter (from certain death) and brought her to the vet’s.  The vet called me to asked if I’d like to help the rescuer rehome Abby.
3.  Abby was extremely sad when I first saw her.  It seems she had whined and clawed at the door when her owner dumped her.  I knew it was going to be quite hard to rehome a 13 year-old.  Abby had been suffering from neglect for many years – this was evident in the condition of her coat, her skin and her eyes.

Abby, when first rescued

4.  A French lady was interested.  She took Abby home, but gave up immediately when Abby attacked her cats.  So Abby came back to us again after barely 12 hours.  The rescuer wanted her put down, but I said we would work harder at finding her a home.  So we took over the case.
5.  Alicia Horseley, of Pet Epicure, offered to foster Abby and help her regain her health while we looked for an adopter.
6.  Lisa came to know about Abby, and contacted Tina Tan, and Tina said “yes” to adopting Abby.
7.  Alicia fostered Abby for almost 5 weeks.
8.  Tina came back from overseas yesterday, and today is the BIG day we had all been waiting for.

Here’s today’s story:

Alicia’s shop, Pet Epicure, is located at Melawati, and being totally hopeless in KL, I got our volunteer, Terry, to take me there.  We got lost, anyway, and Alicia had to finally come to a petrol station to guide us there.

Abby greeting us at the door

I was amazed to see the transformation in Abby.  She is much fatter now, her coat looks much, much healthier, and most importantly and significantly, she was SO happy!  She trotted all over the shop.  This is a far cry from the time when she was first rescued.

The forlorn look of hopelessness was totally gone.  Completely!  In its place is a happy dog, whom you know has been receiving a lot of love and care.  She was also very confident.

This is Alicia, the angel who answered our plea for help.  Terry is looking at Abby.
You’re so happy now, aren’t you, Abby?
We could barely hold Abby down even for a photo because she was so active and happy, running all over the shop.
Are you sure you’re 13 years old, Abby?  Why, you look like half your age!!
Lisa and Tina soon arrived, and there was more excitement in the shop now.
Here’s Tina, she’s sent from the high heavens!  And that’s XiXi, Tina’s Schnauzer.  Say hello to each other, friends.  You’re going to live together now.
Alicia explaining to Tina about Abby’s habits, likes and dislikes.
Alicia had been feeding Abby BARF (Bones and Raw Food), which she believes is a much healthier diet than processed kibbles.
Now, don’t forget Lisa – she played a major role in making this rehoming possible.
After more than an hour of chatting, with Alicia passing on useful information to Tina about Abby – what to feed her, how to care for her skin, etc., it was time for Abby to go to her new home.  Alicia gave Tina some BARF to take home, and Tina will be learning how to make BARF as well.
Bye, sweetheart…you be good now, you hear?
And our Dame got to ride in a brand new car, too!
When we first took on Abby’s case about 6 weeks ago, it seemed a totally formidable task, almost impossible.  But as I always say, “never say no until you’ve tried your very best”  And we did, and look what happened?  As Alicia says, and rightly so, “the universe will provide an answer”, and it certainly did.
The universe sent two angels in the form of Lisa and Tina.  And Abby’s life now is beautifully blessed.
On our way home, Terry’s car broke down, but we were also VERY blessed, because it broke down right in front of a mechanic’s shop!  Tell me, how lucky can you be, right?  I am always grateful in any situation because I choose to be so.  Terry said it must have been “good karma” because we had come to rehome Abby.  So we got the car fixed, and reached home, very late but safely.
The universe will provide an answer.  Always remember that.
You just have to do things from your heart, and give it all you’ve got.
Things will fall into place somehow, and what seemed impossible at first (rehoming a 13 year-old dog, or car choosing to break down in the middle of the highway leaving your stranded) will somehow turn around, and the answers will be there.

This reminds me of a poem I learnt in primary school.  It goes like this:

Do your best,
And leave the rest,
It’ll all come right,
Some day or night.
P.S. Read the next posting for Tina’s updates….from home!

Alicia's TLC and BARF has truly made an amazing change in Abby's life.

Abby totally transformed in a matter of 5 weeks!

Thank god for angels like Alicia 🙂

  3. aiyo, don't la say like that! the fact that you and so many others keep trying, making calls and sending emails…it all counts! frankly, i did the easy part.

i think pestering ppl to help, to adopt, to spread the word…that's the hard part.
