As I was sitting there with Vixey, a rescuer called on an SOS. It seems this little stray kitten had trouble defecating and could not walk properly.
So, I drove over and brought the kitten to the vet.
She was just a tiny little thing, barely 3 weeks old. The poor thing looked very weak and emaciated as I picked her up. She is a tabby, with interesting Apache colours.
Your name shall be “Apache”, little one.
The vet pressed her colon, and told me to feel it too. Goodness gracious, it was HARD. Really, really hard. Like a hard sausage all the way.
The vet suspects she already has megacolon (like Vixey) and she could have been constipated for even as long as two weeks. Imagine the suffering and anguish, folks.
Upon further examination, she also has an injured pelvis. That accounts for the fact that she could not walk properly. It could have been an accident or someone could have stepped on her.
The vet also said she is actually starving to death because the colon is so full (of faeces) that no food can be absorbed at all. That is why she is so emaciated. Indeed, she is all skin and bones.
So, again, it was between having her put down or to try our best to save her.
Of course there’s no question about that.
We will do our best to save her.
The first thing that needs to be done is a full-scale enema. Then, we hope she can defecate. After that, let’s see if she can eat. If she cannot, she would have to be on drips.
The enema first, then.
I will be going back to check on her later on.
Do please send little Apache healing energy and positive thoughts.
