If you remember, Jimi had to return Tinsel to us because his wife has an allergy to cats. So, Terry collected Tinsel last night.
This afternoon, Terry called to say Tinsel has been purging many times since last night, so we brought Tinsel to the vet’s.
But our regular vet was out, so we rushed Tinsel off to another vet. With young kittens, I never take any chances as their mortality rate is high. First sign of trouble, off to the vet’s.
We were lucky it wasn’t crowded, and the vet had a lot of time to do a thorough examination. Luckily Terry brought some stool sample as well.
According to Terry, Tinsel has been practically eating non-stop and also purging non-stop.
To cut a long story short, and to spare you all the medical jargon, Tinsel has an “angry gut”. The gut is so “angry” that it’s giving out a lot of mucus, and if this problem is not addressed at an early stage, it could become very dangerous, or develop into a chronic problem.
So for now, the plan is to give Tinsel very easily-digestible food, ie. boiled chicken or Hill’s ID, in very small amounts, at frequent intervals. Terry opted for the ID. Tinsel will also be on two antibiotics, and he would have to be confined in a warm cage because he needs to rest.
But our little friend was so incredibly active throughout the entire adventure – it was non-stop mewing and moving around.
We went back to my house, got the cage and hot-water bottle, and off we went to Terry’s house to set up Tinsel’s “solitary confinement”!
Yes, Tinsel, Dr says only one teaspoon per feeding, for today. Sorry… If you don’t purge, you get more tomorrow. Tinsel lapped up the one teaspoon in a blink of an eye!
