While we were doing the adoption this afternoon, we saw this little kitten who was sick. According to the fosterer, he stopped eating yesterday. Judging from his condition, he looked pretty bad, so we offered to take him to the vet.
This is the little fellow. He looked much worse than this. He appeared very weak and could barely move.
So right after the adoption, we rushed him all the way from Sri Petaling back to Subang Jaya to one of our vets, but this vet was closed for surgery. So we rushed again, amidst the terrible jam, to another one of our vets.
The vet examined him and said at this age (barely one month old), it is really very hard to ascertain what is wrong, so all she can do is to give supportive treatment. But his temperature was sub-normal, and he has traces of flu. He is also terribly weak.
The vet gave him a subcutaneous drip (the normal drip cannot even be administered because his veins are far too fine), and an antibiotic jab.
Then, the vet said it’s best to have someone nurse him for the night.
I enlisted Rani’s help, and she agreed. Bless her kind heart.
Rani said she would monitor him and feed him glucose water.
The first thing Rani did was to use the hair-dryer to warm him up.
That’s Rani covering him with a blanket and warming him up with the hair dryer.
According to Rani, he appeared to be slightly better later this afternoon, but took a turn for the worst at 8.30pm. Rani will take him home tonight and nurse him.
Let’s all send positive healing energy to the poor little kitten.
I’m calling him Randy (after “Rani”).

I can’t over-emphasise the importance of sending young kittens for proper treatment when they do not appear to be well. The mortality rate of young kittens (who do not have the mother’s care) is very high. If you are a fosterer, please send your kitten for proper treatment the moment you sense they are unwell. Their condition can deteriorate very fast. Do not wait. Please send them as soon as you can.
