Guess what…Abby’s going to be adopted!!

You won’t believe this, folks…but you must!! Rejoice, rejoice!!
A French lady by the name of Frannie called me today and asked about Abby. She said she is willing to adopt Abby provided one condition is fulfilled – that Abby is cat-friendly. Frannie lives in Tropicana with 21 rescued cats. So, if Abby is friendly to cats, Abby will get to live out her natural life in Tropicana, in the comfortable and loving home of Frannie and her cats.
Frannie said I must “assess” Abby’s behaviour towards cats first and get back to her.
So, I called the vet and sought his help on this. The vet said he would assess to the best of his knowledge though there is no guarantee because an animal’s behaviour is very much dependent on the environment and the people she is with.
In the first photo, you see Abby and the clinic’s cat, Junior. As we had expected, Abby hardly noticed her at all. The vet says Abby is partially blind at this age, and anyway, dogs do not see very well. Also, from the vet’s assessment, Abby cannot possibly be hostile to anyone or any animal. She is just too old and mellowed for any hostile behaviour (please tell this to my 13 year-old dog, Bobby, who is still extremely possessive and jealous, and will fight for attention!).
So, that’s the first hurdle passed. Hooray!
I decided that Abby should have a good bath before going to her new home, so the rescuer and I took her to the groomers for a bath. In the next two photos, you see Abby in the car, sitting with me. These photos are not of good quality because I used my handphone to take them.
Abby was SO incredibly happy in the car!! She tried to sniff the air by putting her snout out of the window – she was just so, so happy to be given a car-ride. That’s the typical behaviour of a home pet, especially dogs.
At the groomers, I was asked the history of Abby so I told the groomer briefly what had happened. He too, was aghast at how heartless Abby’s owner has been and wonders if in the owner’s old age, his children might abandon him and have him put to sleep!
That’s Abby at the groomers (fourth photo). She was so obedient and took everything in her stride.
Now, all that is left is to see how Abby would respond to Frannie tomorrow, at 6pm. And next, to see if Abby would be ok with Frannie’s 21 cats.
If all goes well, Abby would have a “forever home”!!
We wait with bated breath…
If it doesn’t, Frannie says she would have to return Abby to me. I guess that’s only fair…
Now, here’s what WE can all do now….PLEASE pray that Abby will be ok with the 21 cats. Send positive thoughts, folks. It works, if we do it collectively. Never give up…reach for the stars!!
Miracles DO happen, when you believe.
A millions thanks to all of you who have forwarded this link and spread the news to your friends. Special thanks to Loke Ai Ney who contacted Frannie. All of you who have helped are truly angels to animals.
Many thanks also to Li Lian’s friend, Alicia, and my friends, Yi Lin and Andrew for offering to foster Abby. Since we have a potential adopter, this is a better arrangement for Abby (if it works out), so we shall try it out first.
PRAY, my friends. PRAY….
Abby, please be nice to the cats….
I am confident she would be – she is so gentle.

  1. Hi Kah Yein,

Already in my heart and mind, I am praying that all Frannie's 21 cats will live in harmony with Abby as soon as she is brought to her new home. I am positive they will.

    Yours sincerely,
    Violet Yee

  3. Hi everyone, it's all thanks to the people who forwarded the link and the news. I would never be able to do this all by myself. That is why AnimalCare's motto is "Working together for the animals". Without all of your help, we wouldn't be able to do much. So, thank YOU all!
