I was reading up about the food from their website, http://www.primalpetfoods.com/education/calc, actually more of using their feeding calculator to figure out how much I should feed Bunny (whose weight is 15lbs), I came upon this:
Freeze-Dried Formulas
Because of the importance of moisture in a raw diet, we recommend rehydrating this product for optimum nutrition absorption. To rehydrate, add 1 tablespoon of water for every nugget or 1/4 cup of water for 4 nuggets. For best rehydrating results, break nugget into small pieces and mix thoroughly with water to force moisture into product. Note: Feeding percentages based on rehydration of product. Feeding amount should be based on nuggets only.
So I decided to reconstitute the nuggets with water and see if my brood would like it.
As though they could read my mind (mind you, I was just sitting at the computer, thinking I should add water and try it on them), everyone started getting very excited, with Pole and Cleo leading the way to the pantry.
You tell me if cats cannot read our minds….
We want food! We want food!
Tsk, tsk…there are more things in life than just eating. Yes, such as peace, love, environment protection,…
What’s going on?? Did I miss something? Why is everyone out in the pantry? Isn’t it too early for dinner?
Out from the fridge…
(not necessary to keep in the fridge, unless reconstituted with water)
Put nuggets in bowl.
Add 1 tablespoon of water per nugget (estimated).
Break up into bite-size.
Bunny leads the way!
Food is here, everyone!!
I want!!
Cleo: Passed!
She liked it wet.
I finally remembered why Cleo would particularly like Primal Freeze Dried. She loves raw food.
Er…no?
Cow: No.
He likes it dry, I suppose.
Tabs ate it wet.
More, please?
Pole only like it dry.
Bunny’s verdict: *Sapu habis and sapu next bowl as well*
Poor Bunny’s eyes have been tearing since the haze started. A vet also told me that Bunny’s FIV+ condition would cause his eye to produce more discharge than the ordinary cat.
Indy also preferred it dry, but finally ate it from the bowl (wet).
Cleo to Bunny: How much can you actually eat?
I finally removed the bowl before Bunny wiped it clean. I also noticed one thing – with Primal Freeze Dried, Bunny actually eats only his share (as per the feeding calculator quota) and moves away. All of them do that. They only come back out of temptation to clean up the leftovers. Otherwise, they are quite happy after eating their allocated quota.
Outside, Timmy got all excited.
The two girls didn’t like it wet at all.
Vincent: Passed!
Timmy: *Two bowls*
Daffodil sniffs at it, but decides not to eat it wet.
I’ll bet Timmy contracted this bowl as well (because later when I went out again, everything had been wiped clean).
I prefer mine dry, please.
Okay, Rosie. Will get the pack from the fridge.
Rosie holds you to your word…accompanied by Timmy.
Yes, Rosie. Here it is…
Me? Me?
You’ve eaten twice your share, Timmy. But you may lick Rosie’s bowl…not that there is any left, actually.
Timmy’s motto in life: Be grateful for small mercies. And never say “no”.

Hi. I’m still trying to convince my 2 senior cats to try this food. They would smell it and walk away even when hungry. 2 of my 4 kittens like it, the other 2 will eat it when hungry or if mixed with canned food. Tried wet and dry, they seem to prefer dry. Does the freeze-dried formula need to be refrigerated? The promoter told me it can be stored like normal kibbles.
If not mistaken, I think it’s written on the pack to refrigerate after opening if reconstituted with water. If not, I suppose it’s okay not to put in the fridge.
Hi Su,
You would just need to store it in a cool and dry place. You need to refrigerate it only if you have reconstituted the nuggets with water. Recommended to take some time to read their website, there are lots of info in it. Thanks
Hmmm, it would never have occurred to me to feed this stuff dry. One of the biggest benefits of a wet/raw diet is the high moisture content of the food. Then again, if the cats won’t eat it, it doesn’t really matter, I suppose!
Timmy Two Bowls 😀
Nice photo of Pole. I can see her reflection on the bowl.
Do let us know ya, Andy when the stock comes. I was a bit too late to purchase the sample stocks at Pet World. Will go get some (hopefully on offer! hehe) when it arrives. Wanna try on my 8 fussy cats.
