I received this message from a reader and I’m putting it up here for the benefit of all dog-owners and their dogs. It is definitely sound advice for all dog owners to tag their dogs.
I’ve been reading all these lost dog notices especially for pedigrees and their heart-wrenching sobbing appeal stories. Please note that I’ve handled a lost dog case in PJ which was also claimed to be kidnapped but was actually found in a drain by a neighbor a few streets away and I suspect the dog just ran away from home.It is frustratingly mind-boggling why these owners would pay so much to buy these pedigrees or mix, pay so much to give them a luxurious life but yet, refuse to buy a cheap dog tag with their handphone number or sometimes no collar at all! Now, I have two other dogs (both of mixed breed) found from KL. Someone wants to adopt one of them right away and I’m having an impossible time convincing the rescuer to keep for at least one week. But can I blame her? She can’t foster because her parents don’t allow and I can only help her to foster the other one. Are these owners expecting rescuers to go to the ends of earth to return their precious to them? In addition, return the dogs Frontline-d, vaccinated, groomed, well-fed and sometimes spayed/neutered and all at the rescuer’s budget! If the dogs just have a simple dog tag with phone number, they could have been returned to the owner within the hour.I’m appealing to you to post a community message at your AnimalCare blog to request/advise/scold all current owners to make the identification tags for their dogs. We rescuers are already having a hard time rescuing stray and community dogs so we don’t need these preventable headaches from these lost dogs.
