This is really sad.
The thing is, if people would only remember what they learnt about biological control in school, the presence of cats will keep the rats away. So, if we allow cats to remain in our community, most likely, there will not be rats. Then, there is no need to use rat poison at all, which not only endanger unsuspecting and innocent animals, but also the environment, the water we drink and the plants we eat.
Goodbye, Little Ms Ginny. May you be in a happier and safer world now, free from cruelty and dangers.

To: Chan Kah Yein <chankahyein@gmail.com>Hi there Kah Yein,I bear a heartbreaking news of Little Ms Ginny. Last Saturday, after having breakfast, i came home around 11.30am to see Ginny yowling in my back garden laying flat on the grass. I knew at that moment that she could have ingested rat poison. She was drooling and her bottom was soiled. She couldn’t walk or comprehend what’s happening to her. Immediately i yelled for my husband to get the car ready as we need to rush her to the nearest Vet clinic. She was yowling and having seizures while in the carrier on the way to the Vet. I prayed that she will be ok. We reached the clinic 15 mins later, i got down from the car and ran for life to the clinic and i screamed “emergency! emergency! i think the cat has eaten rat poison” at the receptionist. Bless the Dr, he immediately called us in, and they started to give her injections and putting her on the drips. I was silent the whole time, as i didn’t want to disrupt the Dr’s flow. They tried their best, but she did not make it. Dr came out half an hour later to say, Ginny has passed on. I was speechless. We both went to see her and told her it’s ok now, no more pain for you Ginny girl. There weren’t any tears, and i don’t know why. Maybe it’s her time, her fate.In the last 2 months, there were 2 adult cats which died in the neighbourhood and they picked my home to die in. Both were found at the same spot, near the roof. Both had a pool of blood oozing from their mouth. The 1st cat i saw, i thought it was some disease or some fight injury, as i didn’t know better. When the 2nd one was found, the condition was the same, pool of blood oozing from the mouth. That was on the 1st of May 2014. These 2 cats have not been seen loitering in my part of the road before. Then on the 3rd May 2014, the same fate befalls Ginny. It must be someone putting out rat poison to kill the rats and these cats, innocently thought it is food and have eaten them. Immediately, i printed out flyers to address all neighbours in the area not to put out rat poison in areas that is accessible to the animals such as cats, squirrels & birds. Then i know i had to approach each and every house to create this awareness and the dangers of leaving out rat poison in the open. I found out that there were also a number of cats that went missing on the upper half of the street when this “makcik” i talked to told me quite a number of her cats have gone missing too. I spoke to a number of neighbours but none said they put any rat poison out. I just hope that after talking to the neighbours, the person who did put the poison out will remove it immediately. Else, i just have to pray that no more stray cats succumb to the same fate as Ginny.Little Ms Ginny, may you rest in peace, run free and happy over the rainbow bridge with the rest of your friends. May you have a good re-birth.Yoke Mei
I informed Yoke Mei that we cannot publish the photos of deceased animals as a few readers had previously been quite offended by it. True, in a way, it is disrespect for the deceased and secondly, it could be quite disturbing to certain people, especially our younger readers.

To: Chan Kah Yein <chankahyein@gmail.com>Oh yes, do publish the news. I want to create awareness so that the public will understand the dangers of rat poison. I have attached the photos of the earlier 2 cats which died. We found the 1st cat, a ginger male on the 6 Apr 2014, and then the 2nd cat on 1st May 2014. Both gave out very foul stench a day before and the following day my hubby went up to check and found them there. I wish more people are not so offended by pics like these because this gives us knowledge and with more awareness we can manage and plan things better. But i do wish you share the story at least so that we can create awareness…. I’m doing fine as i am learning to accept fate and deal with things i that is not within my control. Now, i have to cage another TNRM cat which alwys goes up to the roof area to keep him safe. Am posting on petfinder & on FB to find him a home for nearly a month now, still no successful adopter yet. Will write to you again tomorrow with his pics to be posted on MyAnimalCare. Thanks Kah Yein
The sign of poisoning is usually foaming and drooling at the mouth. If your animal shows this sign, please rush him/her to the vet.
