  • Hiro eats a novel protein (Cubgrub’s Duck)

I was rather concerned about Hiro totally and completely eating only beef chunks. He has refused chicken. So I asked Ms Ong for advice. Ms Ong of Survivor Shelter is a chef and knows a great deal about food. Ms Ong said beef has a strong odour (in Chinese, it is known as a “fishy…

  • Novel protein (quail) day for the Monsters

Today, the Monsters had Cubgrub’s Quail as their novel protein. They loved it! They ate so fast I didn’t have time to take photos while they were eating. I had to keep replenishing their bowls!

  • Hiro and the Blondies

In an effort to fatten Hiro up so that he can be vaccinated soon, I’m giving him beef chunks. I don’t make it a practice to feed beef to our cats but yes, cats can eat beef as they are obligate carnivores. I’m using it for a purpose here: To help Hiro put on weight…

  • Raw food training in the porch

Not much progress so far. Gerald and Misty are already eating 100% raw meals, but Creamy is only willing to eat cut-up raw meat and not Coco&Joe’s. The same as a few days ago. But I’m not complaining because Creamy probably gets food from home so he would prefer canned or kibble.

  • Breakfast for everyone!

Today, we achieved 100% raw for breakfast!! Yes, for all of our 18 cats. The day started with the Porch Cats: Here’s the trick to starting raw that works for our cats – give them cut-up raw chicken meat. Somehow this works better than the homebased raw food with supplements. Maybe it’s “purer”, I guess.…

  • Creamy’s boycott

Gerald and Misty had a raw meal breakfast today. By the way, I was scrolling through past blogposts this morning and came across a cat I had named Trixie during Samantha’s free roaming days. Actually, Trixie is Misty!! I thought Misty was a new tortie, but no, Misty is Trixie! Misty Trixie! Trixie Misty! Anyway,…

  • Misty and Gerald can eat a 100% raw meal!!

It only took one day to convert Misty! Gerald has been exposed to raw food before this, but yesterday, both of them had raw food mixed with their canned food. This morning, I tried 100% raw and both finished it! Misty actually preferred the cut-up raw meat to Coco’s. But Gerald prefers Coco’s. I gave…

  • Gerald and Misty’s ongoing training

This morning, the ratio of raw:canned was 1:2. This evening, it’s 1:1. Yes, they sapu habis! I think Gerald can progress faster.

  • The Princesses who eat like….Monsters!

Haha…but that’s a good thing and I’m certainly not complaining! Eat, eat, eat!! That’s pretty much for kittens, right?  Sometimes, they can eat three times this amount! Chomp, chomp, chomp…. Riley, unlike the Princesses, is an anorexic eater. But her weight is good, so I guess I will let her be.

  • Training the porch cats to eat raw food

I started training Gerald some weeks back but I wasn’t consistent enough, so the training is ongoing, but at the pace I can manage. Inside the house, everyone is on a 100% raw diet but the Super Seniors and Tabs get some leeway. So this morning, instead of one can (of canned food) per cat…

  • BARF – First attempt (Joy’s cats)!

Good morning, it’s Joy here. I am on a journey to transition some, if not all, of my cats to raw.  With more than half being seniors, I would like them to benefit from this and have them live their lives healthy to a good old age. First attempt : Ate : 1 (Yasmin) Licked…

  • The Princesses’ updates – it’s novel protein day!

It’s novel protein day today, so the Princesses and Samantha had Cubgrub’s Duck for breakfast. An novel protein is a protein that is not part of the animal’s regular diet. A novel protein’s function is to prevent food allergy with the commonly used proteins such as chicken and fish. This is today’s lunch. Riley joins…

  • My new Hiro-ic bodyguard!

When I go for my walks or do taiji in the park, my bodyguards are now Gerald, Misty and Creamy. And yes, the equilibrium at the porch is better than I had expected. Misty seems to be less of a gangster now. Creamy comes back to eat. But indoors, I now have a new bodyguard!…

  • Indy eats…on his own!!

Ever since Indy started recovering from this loose stools, I made the judgment call to convert Indy back to a 100% raw diet and it has been good for him. He does not vomit in the morning (this is rare but it has really stopped) and he looks good. But… But he won’t eat on…

  • Hiro wants Primal Freeze-Dried!

Wow! The little one knows he needs variety. I thought he did not like Coco’s Turkey recipe, it turns out he just wants something different. He didn’t want Coco’s today. Looks, he is eating rehydrated Primal Freeze-Dried. Mahal punya makanan…it’s organic. I put a lot of water in his little bowl and he sapu habis.…
