Are we losing our focus?

Today, a friend gently prodded me. She said: You started AnimalCare with the sole mission of spaying and neutering stray animals, and educating people about kindness to animals. Why have you ended up doing adoptions and funding all these medical treatments?

“Well,” I said, “How can I possibly say no to Kaiser, Joanie, Angel, and this little kitten whom we had lost today?” And when people want to adopt strays, it means taking one more stray animal off the streets and giving it a good and loving home, shouldn’t I go all out to make that possible?

We are called “AnimalCare” and by virtue of the name itself, we must CARE for animals. And caring is not only limited to just spaying and neutering.

While spaying and neutering, we believe, is the long-term solution to the stray problem because it gradually reduces the number of unwanted stray animals, in the present moment, there are already SO many stray animal leading a suffering life, and they too, need help.

However, the extent of help that we can offer is very limited.

There have been occasions where people have asked us to perform the following and we have been unable to help:

1. catch stray animals – we do not have the expertise nor the equipment.
2. buy over-the-counter medication for animals – self-medication can be very dangerous and we advise against this. We do not supply medicines.
3. collect animals from far-away places for veterinary treatment – our transport is limited only to Subang Jaya, Petaling Jaya and certain parts of Kuala Lumpur. All our volunteers are working people.
4. stop cruel people from abusing animals – we have reported this to the SPCA. They are the authority on this.
5. take in unwanted animals – we do not have a shelter, and we have to seek the help of fosterers for this purpose. We can only put up your animal for adoption on our website and at petfinder.my. You can also do it yourself at petfinder.my – it is the fastest way to get any animal adopted.

With our limitations, we can only focus on spaying/neutering and education, but if the occasion warrants, we will do our best for emergency cases like Joanie’s.

However, in line with our motto, “Working together for the animals”, we welcome more volunteers, especially, those who are good in certain areas.

If you are able to contribute in those areas where we lack expertise and knowledge in, please volunteer. Then, perhaps, we can expand our services to cover more areas in animal protection.

Let us work together with one heart for the better, safer and happier wellbeing of the animals.
