The mother-cat did not recognise her kittens anymore, so I don’t feel so bad giving up her kittens for adoption today.
This is really not an easy thing to do, folks – to take a stray off the street, to send her for spaying, and to separate her kittens from her. I can only console myself that it is for the greater good because most mothers would reject their kittens at about 4 months, and the kittens would be left to fend for themselves.
So what I’ve done now is to ensure the mother-cat will not breed anymore, and her two kittens have a good home with Ida and family.
It isn’t easy… I can only tell myself this is safer than being out in the street and getting pregnant 3-4 times a year.
P.S. I was holding the mother-cat at the clinic when a dog came in. She got so frightened, she struggled and in the process, I got scratched and bitten in four places. It was bleeding non-stop at the clinic but the vet gave me some iodine to apply on it. Ah well…these are the battle scars, the tell-tale signs that one is a rescuer! Comes with the job.
