CRITICAL situation at the Klang Dog Pound

Our friends, Angela and Jimmy donated some dogfood for the Klang Dog Pound (since there is no budget for food over there), and our volunteer, Mandy, came over to collect the food and deliver it to the pound this afternoon.

This is what she saw:

It’s been an extremely heart wrenching day today when i went to the pound and brought some food donated to AnimalCare by Angela and Jimmy. What greeted me was a sight so BAD i cannot even describe it. I think most of the photos will speak for itself.

When i spoke to the caretaker, it seems that during the end of the year there’s a lot of people who abandon their dogs when they’re away for holidays and not only that, according to him the dog catchers are on a rampage and they’re going around catching dogs at night too. And because some owners will allow their dog at night to do their business, they will be caught if found wandering around by these dog catchers.

What shock me the most is that the caretaker told me that only this morning one of the dog is surrendered to them and the dog seem to be in good shape ( the dog with a leash- white long hair with brown spots on it). I don’t think that dog will be in good shape if it’s left there for a few more days. In the enclosure there are sick dogs and as attached there’s a photo of a dog with boils all around the body and if it’s left in the enclosure with other healthy ones, i believe in a few more days they’ll be infected as well. Nobody seem to care if the dog suffer and no medical attention is given and it’s making the situation worse.

Some of the dogs are fighting for the food as well due to extreme hunger and some are injured. As you can see most of the enclosures are packed to the brim and only the alpha males gets to eat. From what i see, 70% of the dogs caught are with owners as they have collars and leash, we need to put a stop to this! The government need to be reminded that euthanasia is not the solution to all this, spay/neuter is the solution!

I hope the public will come forward and stand up for these poor creatures, they can’t speak but we can!

Now, please take a look at these sad photos:

PLEASE SAVE US
Just how long do the authorities intend to keep capturing and killing these poor innocent animals?  Ten years?  Twenty years?  Forever?  Do they KNOW that killing is NEVER going to solve the stray population problem?  Can they please LEARN from advance countries (don’t look far, just look north at Thailand) that mass spaying-neutering is the answer to this problem?
Do these people who give the order to kill have a conscience?
Do they believe in retribution?
DO THEY KNOW THAT KILLING IS WRONG?
KILLING IS ALWAYS WRONG.
I have been chided the last time that the way to address this problem “properly” is to approach the politicians, the assemblymen, the powers-to-be.  I did.  I approached FOUR of them, just one month ago, just before we took 59 dogs out of this same pound.  They could not even get the “adoption fee” waived for me.  We had to pay.  At the pound, has anything changed?  The dogs are still starving.  There is still no budget for food.
We took 59 dogs out the last time (MDDB took over 23, we rehomed 36).
We do not have any resources left to rehome anymore dogs now.  We are still funding the medical treatment of 8 sick dogs (from the ones we had rescued).
Please help us forward this link.  If you see any dog you might want to help in the photographs above, please go to the dog pound in Northport, Klang and rescue the dog out of this hell-hole.
Please help these poor creatures who are at the mercy of heartless beings.
To all dog owners: Please keep your dogs indoors.  Do not ever let them out without you.  If you have lost your dog, please go immediately to the dog pound and look for him/her.  Diseases abound in the pound.  Healthy dogs are put together with the diseased ones.  They don’t care.
Until we have the courage to recognise cruelty for what it is…whether its victim is human or animal…we cannot expect things to be much better in this world…We cannot have peace among men whose hearts delight in killing any living creature. By every act that glorifies or even tolerates such moronic delight in killing we set back the progress of humanity.  – Rachel Carson
If a man inflicts a thousand ills upon a beast, it can neither ward him off with speech nor hale him into court. Therefore is it essential that ye show forth the utmost consideration to the animal, and that ye be even kinder to him than to your fellow man. – Abdu’l-Baha

Non-violence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution. Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are still savages.  – Thomas Alva Edison

If we Malaysians have no power to stop these cruelties at the dog pound, why dont we alert the foreign NGOs and get them to pressure the authorities to stop the cruelty to the dogs?

Don't put your hopes on SPCA. It is powerless to do anything.

Dogs have a lousy life in this country. They are treated as pests. Look at the signboards at our parks. Most of them have NO DOGS but cats, kangaroos, iguana lizards, deers, chickens and every other animals are not forbidden. Why single out us dogs? I refuse to obey such discriminatory signboards, I take my dog to walk in my park and I ignore the signboard. We citizens must learn to push back and fight for the rights of the dogs in this country.

Mankind differs from the animals only by a little and most people throw that away.

Straydog, If the authorities aren't listening, would the press be interested to do a coverage and give it more publicity? Is the press animal-friendly? Why don't you get the press in and do a write-up? It may be more effective this way.

Malaysia follow other countries? No, many actually proudly insist that Malaysia is unique and different. All that come to the country have to follow and respect the "unique" ways here. Follow Thailand with their TNR? No, here they insist that castration is DOSA despite what Jakim says. Some human beings have a real talent for seeing what they want to see (what suits and benefits them) and blocking out what they do not want to see or hear. And what one does not see does not exist … as the ostrich will tell you! So, so pathetic!

The dog catchers are paid RM10 per dog on top of their basic monthly salary. The more they catch, the more $$$ they get. That is why they are on a catching spree. They don't care if they are strays or dogs with owners, they just want $$$. I have seen them catching dogs with the owners present and then extorting money from the owners in order to release the dogs.
Govt and politicians, please wake up..spay-neuter is the way to go, not mass killing. To owners, please don't dump your dogs in the pound when you don't want them anymore..please rehome them. Remember Karma, what comes around goes around..one day your children may do the same to you..just a food for thought

I feel sad and sorry for the dog which was surrendered by the owner. How can the owner be so heartless? From the photo above, the dog is so adorable and beautiful.

anon 7.06am… the problem lies with the Pakatan Rakyat Selangor state exco. A lot of Press publicity will be like water on a duck's back unless the state executive councillors get off their butts and have the courage to control the local councils, its management and stop the council employees and dog catchers from cruel acts. It all boils down to political will… whether they have the courage to CHANGE things for the better or are they too chicken to do anything? Have we all make a mistake by electing a Pakatan Rakyat Selangor state govt? And now they are showing that they are too chicken to change the local councils' management and prefer to continue letting the dogs suffer a slow painful death all in the name of "it is too messy and politically sensitive" to clean up the situation. Life is tough… especially if you are a dog in Malaysia.

Let me know how I can make a financial contribution to help the work you do with these animals. What goes around comes around and the people responsible for doing this will receive their deserved karma in the end…

Thank you Dr. Chan for making a difference…

  11. Hi Belle, Thank you very much. I think what the dogs need most of all now is food (you can send it directly to the pound) and a safe shelter. It would help very much if you could find fosterers or adopters for them. They need to be taken OUT of this hell-hole. Our funds are used to help stray animals (cats and dogs) not only in Klang, but also in other places. Donations: http://animalcare.my/search/label/Donations
    Thank you very much.
