A waste of time – Oliver’s story

Oliver and his friends, Mr Fatt and his wife, have been running around so much for Sandra’s family for weeks now.

Yesterday, they went on a “merry-go-round”.

Here’s Oliver’s story:

20/01/10, i received a called from a lady telling me that she is interested in adopting one of sandra’s siblings, i was so happy to hear the news and gave the lady a brief introduction of all the puppies.

I told the lady that the 4 remaining puppies excluding sandra was at a temporary fosterer’s house located at USJ 18 and if she was really interested in adopting the puppies she need to go to the fosterer’s house to view the puppies.

The lady told me she was interested in sandra as well, and i agreed to bring sandra along to the fosterer’s house so that she can view all the puppies.

Arrangement been made to view the puppies at 7.30pm, i arrived at the fosterer’s house at 7.00pm along with Mr Fatt and his wife as we all was very eager to meet the potential adopter.

By 7.45pm i received a call saying that the so called ‘potential adopter’ cannot make it as she had ‘something’ to do. And the potential adopter ask me to bring one puppy to her house so that she can help us in fostering one of the puppy.

Off i went driving all the way from usj 18 to meet the ‘potential adopter’ near her housing area at subang perdana. The poor little puppy was carsick and he vomited inside the car 3 times.

After meeting up with the ‘potential adopter’ i gave her a long briefing around 25 minutes regarding the puppy as she told me that she does not have the experience in handling dogs but would like to try it out.

After the long briefing i passed the puppy over to the ‘potential adopter’ , i was very happy that at least there is some kind soul out there is willing to help out in fostering.

Less than 1 minute after driving off, i received another distress called from the ‘potential adopter’ telling me that the puppy has again vomited on her hands, so as quick as possible i made a u-turn to meet up again.

I explained to her that the puppy was carsick and when the puppy reach her home he will not be vomiting again, but i warned her that the puppy may again vomit inside her car.

The lady was so frightened and quickly told me that the car does not belongs to her, it belongs to her father and tomorrow she will be working leaving the puppy and her mum at the house. She was worried that her mum might not be able to handle the puppy.

What is she talking about??? with a firm tone i told her that she must be ready to face the facts that puppy will vomit when they get carsick. What the hell is the long briefing for.

I took the puppy away from her and with a harsh tone i told the lady next time please do make up your mind if you think you want to help, and not by pure impulsive decision. And most importantly pleased do not waste our time as we are independent rescuers. You are treating me like a fool by driving around.

With the help from Mr Fatt and wife we drove all the way to setia alam asking another fosterer for help in taking care the puppy. Ms Shirley, the temporary fosterer, was so kind and she agreed to foster the puppy without hesitation.

And i reach home at 11.45 pm, Sigh………..

To all the so call ‘POTENTIAL ADOPTER’ / ‘POTENTIAL FOSTERER ‘ out there please do some research before you think you want to adopt a dog or helping out as fosterer.

What a waste of time and bad luck for me meeting up with this type of people pretending to be kind hearted.

Well, Oliver, I truly empathise with what you, Mr Fatt and his wife, had to go through last night.  Luckily, you finally found Ms Shirley who was willing to take over the puppy, so it ended well.

Looking for fosterers and potential adopters is no easy job.

But let’s put this unpleasant experience behind us now, and look forward.

Today is a new day.

Sorry to hear about that, Oliver. These things happen all the time. I've been given the runaround many times before, but will still continue to do so, for the animals.

Take it as a lesson in patience. What doesn't kill us will only make us stronger.

  2. Yes, it happens to all rescuers including us. a few days ago one Mr Lee and his mother came to our half way home and said that they would adopt two puppies. They took a long time deciding and kept our volunteers waiting. We do not mind that as our main objective is to get the puppies adopted. They picked two puppies and asked us to prepare a box for them. They then told us that they would be pickingt-up the puppies after having their dinner. Our volunteers waited for hours and about 10.30pm, they called to say that a family friend was giving them a puppy. We have many people who come to have a look only and we do not mind that. But to keep us waiting for hours and making us go hunt a box for them is too much. Apparently they called Oliver the same night and : http://animalcare.my/2010/01/oliver-says-thank-you.html
