Meiji’s 3 cats spayed and neutered

This morning Meiji brought three cats, all the way from Raub, to be spayed and neutered at our panel vet.  There were one female and two males.

The males
The female

Since Meiji wanted to take them back to Raub today itself, our vet did the female first to give her more time to recover.

At about 3pm, as I was driving in the pouring rain to Puchong with Trevor following behind, Meiji rang me and said frantically that the female cat looked as though she was dying.  I told her to stop at the nearest vet and get her examined immediately.

After Wendy’s reiki session, I text Meiji again to find out what had happened and to my relief, the female cat was ok.  They were already in Bentong at that time and all was well.

Meiji said perhaps the female cat was already quite weak to begin with because she had not eaten ever since being caught.  I told Meiji that next time, such cats should not be subjected to any surgery.  We cannot risk it.  The wellbeing of the animal must come before the need to get it spayed and neutered.

This is also precisely why we promote CNRM and not TNR.

C = Care

T = Trap

First, we have no expertise in trapping.  Second, trapping can be very stressful for the cat, and this increases the risks during the surgery.

What we propose is that rescuers make friends with the animal and gain its trust.  Then, putting the animal into a cage would not be so traumatic because the rescuer is already familiar to the animal.  This method achieves results much slower, but at least we minimise the risks and stresses of being trapped.

Anyway, I am so glad Meiji’s female cat is alright.

That really gave me a near heart-attack today.  I can certainly do without these for some time!

    Yes, we must take time to make friends with the cat and observe physically (if female) to make sure she is not a nursing mother with kittens still dependent on her milk as well as protection. But we need to do so quickly before she gets the chance to become pregnant again.

    Poor Meiji's female cat, and poor Meiji! God bless Meiji, she is a real gal!
