I received this from an anonymous person who is very concerned about the condition of the MPK dog pound. This cut-and-paste is done with no malicious intent to anyone, but merely as public information.
Our stand on this matter is to urge the public to help the dogs by bringing food to the pound, helping to clean up the place (if need be) and to take the dogs out through the proper channel of adoption.
***********
Went to the klang pound today and guess what? It still looks as bad as before if not worse, i think we’ll just have to let the people judge it for themselves on the condition of the dog pound which is supposedly to have improved. I come to know that MPK have set up a Canine Advisory Team (CAT) and it is supposed to have improved the situation and i also heard that DVS went there on Monday which is on 25/1/2010 to send some food, detergents and bleach. So when i went there this morning to deliver kibbles i expect the situation to have improved at least a ‘little’. Unfortunately, the place looks and smell the same and what is worse is that the containers and basin are so dirty that we (my bro and three other friends) had to actually wash it first and when we request for detergents there’s actually none? I thought DVS brought some detergents?
We were actually told by the caretakers to leave the kibbles there so that they can feed it to the dogs themselves since he say that he would prefer if we don’t enter the enclosures? Well, i wonder why they refuse to let us enter when the CAT team actually went there earlier and find the place ‘nice and clean’ with dogs wagging their tails and licking their hands and actually looked happy and not stressed so i insist that we need to feed the dogs ourselves and see the place for myself. It was as before and it was dissapointing to see that there still puppies in the enclosures about 4 months – 5 months old. I thought they say that they will not catch puppies anymore, what happened then since i saw some in the first enclosures itself. They of course refuse to let me snap photos because they were told by their superiors in MPK that we cannot snap any photos anymore, i had to obey (don’t ask me how i manage to get the photos though but it’s definitely taken today- 30/1/2010).
If you remember the photos taken before this on the Critical Klang Pound situation there’s a white dog with brown spots which was said to have been abandoned by it’s owner? Yes, it’s still there today and it has an injured paw and it was quite bad and when i asked if i can take this dog back to treat it they said that i can’t do that since they were instructed by their superior that we cannot remove any dog from their pound. I thought MPK urged the public to adopt dogs from their pound and the reclamation fee has already been waived then why do they refuse to let me help this poor dog? I was later told that DVS will be coming on Monday to treat it but if they were to wait till Monday it will turn gangrene and most probably badly infected since there’s lots of flies around. (I don’t think this is right and turning a blind eye to an injured dog simply means animal cruelty too). I also saw a paralysed black dog in a pack enclosure with 7-8 other dogs, i thought they should segregate such dogs, it may risk getting trampled upon by other dogs. They could at least leave that dog outside far away from the others, maybe they are afraid it might run away?
I also read that SPCA actually donated 10 cages to place mother and pups together but i only saw two, one given by MDDB earlier last week and another supposedly by SPCA so if my calculation is correct where’s the other 9 cages? It was nowhere to be found. When we left we actually saw there’s some newborn puppies in the makeshift guardhouse near the entrance but the mother was nowhere to be seen and the door was actually closed shut, they’ll definitely die of dehydration and heat if they were not brought in, we didn’t manage to snap any photos on that. I also noticed that now all the enclosures are locked after the real truth on the pound has been made public just months ago, maybe they are afraid that the strays may get stolen? I don’t know, you tell me. I read that when the CAT team visited the place it was said that the pound is not as bad as it looks and we the NGOs are exaggerating but photos don’t lie. It was said the MPK invite them to the pound to have a look at it themselves but come on, if i were to invite a guest to my house i will definitely do some cleaning up too!
I am not trying to put the council in a bad light, i’m merely stating the truth. I urge the public to go the pound themselves to have a look and if you go unannounced you’d MOST probably would see what i see. I hope they don’t use the klang pound situation and politicize it because from what i see and hear it’s already happening. I also heard that Charles Santiago is going to hold a dialogue with MPK after his visit with the NGOs? We’re still waiting but we’re losing our patience fast. Somebody has to do something already! They say things have been done but there’s still little improvement. You don’t have to trust me, just go to the pound yourself and have look but don’t say i didn’t warn you, you may be denied entry since they are putting their guards up now. Hmm…i wonder what they have to hide.
Here are some of the photos:

That's the problem with these politicians – they want publicity and glory for every tiny damned thing. Too bad if after the sound and light show they do nothing.
Charles Santiago publicised his intention to visit the pound several days ahead, giving the Pound ample warning to clean up the place and call the animal welfare groups troublemakers and accuse them of exaggerating about the pound conditions.
Is Charles Santiago that naive or was that his role in the cover up? Certainly since his much publicised tour of Klang Pound, he has done nothing else. Is he going to ignore the photos taken before the whitewash of Klang Pound and say that he has "personally" inspected the pound and that the animal welfare groups are liars in the face of the countless photographs documenting the conditions at the pound??
No wonder now the Pound is preventing photos from being taken! There may be no photos allowed but there are witnesses and they can't silence us all.
They're all lowlifes. From the politicians who lie and lie to MPK to the pound workers who would steal from the helpless and hungry dogs. Karma will get them – unfortunately, not fast enough.

I have personally been to the Klang Dog Pound to feed the dogs before and after the fiasco/ setting up of CAT committee. The condition there is the same as before – bad. I am not trying to put down CAT committee, but please don't do it just for the sake of publicity. Why is MPK afraid of the public taking pictures if there is nothing to hide? Please be transparent. The more you hide, the more suspicious the public will be. Also I hope the CAT committee will regularly monitor the dog pound and provide food/ medications to the dogs there and not do it only once just to appease the public. We are not blind. This stray problem will not end unless MPK and DVS start practising CNRM.
A big kudos and thanks to AnimalCare and MDDB for helping the strays in finding new homes and giving them another chance to live.
Sometimes you wonder why certain quarters come in to claim fame and glory and say everything is rosy when in fact, it is not? Where were you people when dirty work needs to be done? Please remember, at the end of the day, it is not us, but the welfare of the dogs.
I also beg the public to regularly visit the dog pound to see for yourself the situation there and to keep MPK on its toes in ensuring that the pound is clean and the dogs fed all the times. If they prevent the public from visiting the pound in the future, it only means one thing – they are guilty
I just heard of the news today that the CAT team, namely, Ms.Jacqueline Tsang (Save-A-stray) and Pat Lim and independent rescuer were at the pound yesterday and they found the place to be clean and in a 'proper' condition. After reading the condition at the pound, I decided to pay a visit to Klang pound but had trouble finding the place until i asked a factory worker nearby. Phew! It took me alomost one and a half hour to locate the place as there's no adequate sign boards to direct me. I was already in Kws Perindustrian Bandar Sultan Sulaiman but i kept rounding the area until i asked a right person after about 10 or so attempt asking strangers nearby.
Nobody seem to know the place until i finally asked on of the factory worker nearby the pound area. I wonder how does ppl find the place when they try to bail their dogs out. Anyway, upon reaching there, i find the gate locked and i was question by the caretaker the reason for being there. I told the caretaker that i brought some kibbles to be donated to the pound and after some deliberation, he finally let me in but asked me to leave the kibbles and leave.
I was slightly agitated because i was there sincerely to donate some food and was asked to leave immediately after bringing the kibbles in. I did not want to just believe on what was wrote on the blog so i decided to go there myself but to my dismay the enclosures looked dirty and smelly and some of the dogs are sleeping on urine and poo.
I told the caretaker that they should amped up on the condition and wash the place more often but instead i was told to get out after that. I think they must've suspect that i'm sent in by certain NGOs that has gotten into MPK's bad books. My reason of writing in is to clarify that certain parties has definitely been covering up all the dirty laundry that MPK has tried to hide but i'm here to urge the public to go there on their own to have a look.
I hope that something can be done soon, the poor creatures are suffering from what i see. They don't look happy to me, i'm a dog lover and i certaily know how dogs react and feel and from what i see thay are definitely not as happy as the CAT team portrayed them to be.
