Here’s Mas’ updates on Clariss:
Managed a very rushed visit to see Clariss. She immediately arose to her 4 feet and meowed at me in greeting, displaying her joy in seeing me (now who says cats are aloof and selfish and do not love their humans like dogs?). She also licked her lips indicating that she was very hungry.
Upon hearing of my arrival, Dr. V rushed upstairs to update me on Clariss’ progress (I had not wanted to interupt him when I arrived as I was told that he was in the middle of a procedure), and I really appreciate his kindness in accomodating my presence. He said that so far, Clariss has progressed rather well but needed to be sedated to investigate the extensiveness of her injuries, including the broken jaw. It is a risky procedure because if her system is weak and her injuries serious enough, she will not survive the sedation process.
Dr. V explained that Clariss was indeed hungry as they have fasted her in order to prepare her for the procedure and instructed me not to feed her or give her any water. I complied with the vet’s orders and talked to her gently with words of love. She, who had never uttered a single word from the time I rescued her from under the huge wheels of parked cars, a tiny little kitten hardly the size of my clenched fist, had rattled at me non-stop,presumeably telling me of her terrible ordeal and her joy at seeing me.
I did not want to excite her overly as she was due for her procedure, so I patted her gently on her neck (avoiding the head with the cracked skull as well as the broken jaw) and body, and moved away gradually to leave her, telling her to get well, hang on tight and I would be coming to see her again. I could hear her meowing loudly to me all the way as I went through the door quickly to go downstairs. It had been so very touching!
It’s so nice to know that Clariss is being strong and responsive.
Here’s a get-well wish from Cow, Bunny & Pole, and they too want to make a small contribution to Clariss’ medical treatment.
