It’s just the first week of the new year, but our work seems to be in full swing already. Yesterday, Mrs Pathma brought two stray cats to be spayed under our sponsorship. Mrs Pathma is a cat-feeder in Subang Jaya.
Here are the two cats. As they are strays, it took a while to settle them down.
However, when they were examined, the grey tabby was found to be pregnant. We do not spay pregnant cats, so she was spared. Mrs Pathma will let her deliver her babies first, then attempt to catch her again to get her spayed after she is done nursing her babies.
This other female cat was spayed yesterday. She will be returned to the colony after full recovery.
Sometimes we get requests to spay pregnant dogs and cats. Please be informed that our funds cannot be used for this purpose. Some rescuers argue that other groups and some vets do it. Perhaps they do, but we don’t, so I hope rescuers who request for our help will cooperate with us and respect this decision.
Ironically, even before the vet examined the cats, he had already told me that the grey tabby was especially stressed and very nervous. My guess is that she was very anxious and probably worried in defense of her unborn babies.
Sometimes, animals know more than we give them credit for…
I hope she will be able to deliver her babies safely.

One response to “Two female cats, one spayed”
Yes, some people can argue that there are other groups and vets that do spay pregnant animals and abort the babies, but they must also understand and respect that this practice is counter to AnimalCare's Buddhist "no-kill" and "do good always" principles.
As long as these people are seeking funding and assistance from AnimalCare, they must respect AnimalCare's stand on this. Even if they are not seeking funding and assistance, they must still do the same.
It is the RIGHT thing to do.
