Rascal and Minnie, spayed-neutered and up for adoption

I received this email from Punitha, a pet rescuer.  We’ve helped Punitha before in the past with the cost of the medical treatment for two puppies and also with the adoption of Little Ginger and Blue Eyes. 

Read her email below.  It really breaks my heart to know how some people can give up (more like getting rid of) their pets so easily.  Has this person ever thought for a moment, how her pets would feel? 

Here’s Punitha’s email:

A lady adopted two of my rescue kittens last year (June 2010). Their names are Rascal & Minnie. About 2 weeks back (March 2011), I received a call from her telling me that she was about to have her first child, and that caring for both cats have become too much of a burden for her. She also mentioned that she was worried for the health of her unborn child.

Despite my attempts to explain to her that child health problems relating to cats were minimal, and that things will fall into place on time, she refused any advice, and told me that she could just send them over to the SPCA if I couldn’t accept them.

I rescued these kittens when they were just over 4 weeks old, and I knew that I had no choice but to take them back (have never been a supporter of SPCA’s euthanasia policy either).

It was a very sad night for me when I transferred the duo into my carrier. I couldn’t help but notice the fear in Rascal and Minnie’s eyes as they watched their owner return to her car, leaving them…

This totally breaks my heart.  I can only shake my head in sadness. 

Within two weeks of their arrival, I managed to send Rascal and Minnie for spaying/neutering. The adaptation process happened remarkably fast too, considering them being full grown adults.

That’s really a big relief!

Now it’s getting Rascal and Minnie to a permanent, loving home now. Rascal is a handsome boy and very adorable.  Minnie is very sweet and still has a very kitten like character. No joke, she will ‘bite’ gently onto whatever shirt/clothes you’re wearing and try to ‘suckle’, while purring and massaging you with both her paws. She used to do this as a kitten, but who’d have thought that she’d never grow out of it? 🙂

I can only thank you and do hope that you will be able to assist me with both their spaying bills. I feel horrible for asking already as you’ve already helped me before. If I am able to someday, I will definitely return the favour. Also, my friend spoke to me two days back about a mama cat (quite feral) with 3 surviving kittens in her area (4 others got run over by vehicles). She asked me for help with spaying, would you be able to assist her? I have planned a visit on Monday to catch the mother for CNRM, and will foster her kittens and put up for adoption.

We’ve paid of the cost of spaying-neutering Rascal and Minnie and will also pay for the mother-cat.  Punitha will handle the case and take over the entire family.
