Do NOT leave your animals in the car

Another story from Mrs Wong….please take note and tell your friends:

Ella dies in distress locked in car

A three-year-old Labrador called Ella has died after being left in a Toyota Prius in Sydney’s inner west.

Police said they were called to Grove Street, Birchgrove, about 11.15am today after reports of a dog in distress in the hybrid car.

When they found Ella unconscious on the back seat, officers smashed the window and poured cold water on her to try to revive her.

But she was declared dead when they brought her to a local vet, police said.

A police spokeswoman said the 61-year-old man who owned Ella is expected to be charged with animal cruelty today.

The RSPCA said pet owners needed to remember that temperatures rose quickly inside cars, even on mild days.

“When the ambient temperature is 22 degrees the temperature inside a car can rise to over 47 degrees in 60 minutes,” Inspector Matt French from RSPCA NSW said in a statement.

“The high temperatures in the car combined with inadequate ventilation [and] air flow mean that dogs cannot thermo-regulate, leaving them vulnerable to overheating, which can be fatal.”

Mr French said 75 per cent of temperature rises took place within five minutes and 89 per cent occurred within 15 minutes. Darker cars would attract more heat than cars painted in a lighter colour, he said.

Even though it could have been a case of negligence and ignorance on the part of the owner, he will still be charged in court.  But that’s in Sydney.

Very true. Our leaders really have lots to learn, I mean, about animals rights.

Anyway, animal lovers, lets be more alert. We learn thru mistakes.
