The cat, “Ah Boy” did not make it. He passed away this morning. May he rest in peace now.
Yesterday, MDDB had an urgent appeal for a blood donor cat. They had rescued this cat, Ah Boy, and he was very anaemic and needed blood urgently.
I sent out the appeal through the blog and also sent many text messages to all my friends whom I know have house-cats.
My own two cats, Bunny and Tiger are confirmed FIV+ and cannot be donors. That left just Cow and Indy. So I rang the clinic and consulted the vet if I could offer Cow or Indy. The vet said since Cow is Bunny’s brother, he probably has FIV as well. The two have also fought quite a bit when they were young. Indy also could not be a donor because he was rescued from the drain with all kinds of life-threatening infections when young (but he is okay now). The vet preferred a really healthy cat with a good health background.
The two girls, Cleo and Pole are related to Bunny and they were not heavy enough. A blood donor cat has to be at least 4kg in weight.
So, none of my cats could donate.
I found out Bunny was FIV+ when I offered him to be a blood donor for a little kitten about 3 years ago. The clinic did a check and found him to be FIV+, so he did not qualify (the kitten had another donor and the surgery was successful).
Tiger was found to be FIV+ when he had a persistent limp which could not be cured (but acupuncture finally did the trick, and he could run again after 1 week).
By evening, Wani said she had sent three of her cats to the clinic as blood donors.
I was praying for the best for Ah Boy, but he passed away this morning.
May Ah Boy be in a better existence now.

Oh dear. The moment I received the sms, I text to Wani that she can test any of my cats to donate blood. But I said I dont have transport, so she need to take them from my place. There was no response from her and I thought she found a donor.
