Please pray for Stuart

There was another frantic search for fosterers for Stuart today as Devi relented this morning when she saw that Stuart was really going down.

To cut a long story short, Stuart is now with Kak Azah, a cat rescuer and fosterer who has had a lot of experience in nursing kittens. Kak Azah says Stuart is alert and active and we now pray that the little fellow will pull through.

Apparently, the milk powder used by Devi was baby formula. It is normally recommended that kittens be given kitten milk and not milk meant for humans, though some kittens do thrive on any type of milk. It is again, all about affinity.

But now, let’s pray that Stuart will pull through and be stronger every day.

Thank you, Punitha, for working around the clock from morning till night, sourcing for a fosterer, and thank you, Kak Azah, for taking in Stuart.

I still remember the very first time I rescued a kitten – the poor little kitty with its eyes still not open yet. I was on a full panic mode when she would not take anything and I thought she would surely die. Luckily, a very kind vet thought me what to do and explained to me that baby formula gives kitties tummy ache.

So, for emergencies like when it's in the middle of the night, warm fresh milk (not those low fat type) will help for a few hours till one is able to go buy kitty milk in the morning.

We would expect an experienced cat-carer to know that human milk is too high in lactose and causes diarrhoea in kittens. Goat's milk is the closest to their mother's milk and safest. No wonder Stuart and Cindy had diarrhoea and Cindy might even have lived! Pet's Own Milk is available almost everywhere, and it works very well with animals.

I might sound harsh, but sad to say, many people refuse to listen to other people's advices, insisting on their 'good' intentions and others (here Stuart and Cindy) suffer the consequences of their ignorant pride!

Dr Chan, I understand yours and Punitha's frustrations on the needless loss of life and the suffering of Stuart and his little sister.

People like this should not step forward and offer help if they are not able to handle things, just like poor little Bobtail's case.

Another mistake is to decline help from others who know better and watched in frustration, and the refusal to surrender the animal when the said fosterer cannot cope anymore.

Dr. Chan, Stuart seems smaller than Teddybear, no? It is good to have capable vets that can locate the tiny vein and put in the needle. I have met several vets who could not do that for several tiny kittens that I found. Yeah, maybe the vets I met were not so good, some are quite fast to suggest simply PTS them.

But it is good to know that some vets value life and try harder.

Friend, please understand things are not done intentionally. Would you believe if I say that I fed all my 23 cats with Fernleaf and Everyday milk where some came to me with their placenta intact.

When I was new in Brickfields, there was no veterinary clinic in Brickfields nor do I know about Kooi Lim Petshop at all. Yet, all made it thru and some are very senior cats. Kah Yein has seen all my cats.

Please do not say things which are sensitive. I am soft by nature and it may leave a scar by your remarks.

You wouldnt know that most of my relatives have isolated me & my family juz becoz I have many cats at home with me. I never go for weddings or funerals or even an outing just for the sake of my babies.

We have very few rescuers here to help save animals lifes. Please do not discourage them for simple mistakes.

No one is perfect on earth but we are trying to correct our mistakes. Cases I cant handle I leave for better rescuers and GOD to take care.

Sorry if my comment has hurt your pride, but I just wanted to clarify things out.
