Please pray for Putih (surgery this morning)

This is regarding Putih, the neighbour’s cat that Beng Kai rescued. I have just communicated with the vet and Putih needs a rather complicated surgery which involves the re-wiring of his broken jaw and insertion of a feeding tube.  


According to Beng Kai’s conversation with the neighbour last night, the neighbour does not want Putih anymore after Putih was hit by a car. The accident caused injury to his jaw and eye area, plus head trauma. The neighbour (who is the owner) prefers that Putih be euthanised citing he doesn’t know how much longer Putih will live after the surgery. 


Yes, it is a classic case of double standards for humans and for animals. Some people do not (or cannot?) love animals as much as they love themselves. Yet, it is said that the greatest wisdom is this realisation, that we are one and the same. It’s called unconditional love.   


Beng Kai says he is willing to adopt Putih provided his mother agrees to let Putih stay in a cage in the porch. The mother does not allow cats into the house.


The surgery to re-wire Putih’s jaw is scheduled this morning and is estimated to cost RM1000. The vet is waiving boarding charges.  


We could seek a second opinion, but I’d rather we put Putih’s wellbeing as priority and not move him around as that would be very stressful. For humans, we could explain to the human that we want a second opinion and the human can be mentally prepared to be moved around, but you cannot explain this to an animal. Moving Putih would further stress him out, which is definitely not a wise move at this point in time, especially when he is on drips.  


We will help Beng Kai with the cost.
