I was lining the Blueys’ litter box with old newspapers when I chanced upon reading a short report about what is called a “Python Bath”.
Apparently, a Bidayuh girl was born “abnormal”. She had a frail and soft body and moved like a snake. It was known that her father liked to hunt pythons and would eat them as well.
So the “elders” proposed that the girl bathed with a python. They believed the father of the girl had offended the Python Spirit.
After the “Python Bath”, the girl became normal again. Yes, they bathed her with a python. How? I don’t know. No details were given. But even as I’m writing this now, my hair is standing on end.
The father vowed never to hunt pythons for the rest of his life, and also never to eat them again.
Well, good for him, I say, and good for the pythons, too!
As a child, I’ve been told that snakes are very revengeful creatures. Maybe that’s why you don’t find babies moving like chickens, cows, goats, pigs, etc. though these are slaughtered by the billions daily as food for humans. Maybe herbivorous animals are not revengeful? We’ll never quite know, will we?
But in any case, out of compassion, please let’s eat less of them.
Read my new book, please, and let’s start a culture of eating less meat, shall we?
We cannot call ourselves “animal lovers” if we still devour animals by the thousands in one lifetime, can we? A typical meat-eater would have eaten about 11,000 animals in his one lifetime.
Oh gosh…would you believe that?

I understand the concept behind not eating meat, but also, there is flipside to eating veggies and grains.
Lots of forests are being cleared out to plant veggies and grains like rice, corn, oats, barley, rye, etc. What's the consequence of cutting down forests? The animals that live in them lose their habitats and most go extinct.
In fact, extinction happens mostly because of forest clearing for planting crops and for human homes.
Which is worst? Eating only grains and veggies which were planted on forest land, causing vulnerable species to go extinct, or eating domesticated livestock like cows, pigs, and chickens, which are readily available and not endangered?
Just something philosophical to ponder on…
Su Ann, you raise a good point, and it's not just a philosophical one.
We may do our best to control breeding amongst stray animals, but the greatest threat to earth's ecology is the growth of human population. It is, pure and simple, UNSUSTAINABLE, whether we humans choose to feed upon vegetables or other animals. The planet simply cannot feed us at the current rate of human reproduction.
I am a full-time vegetarian, but I must also realise the impact of what I eat. No consumption is without impact. Thank you for raising a very valid point!
Su Ann, pardon me for commenting on your notes there.
In this present day, those meats that we consumes comes from animal farm…eg chicken farm, fish farm, pig farm, goat farm, cow farm, crocodile farm, rabbit farm etc etc. There are no more such thing as 'readily available domestic livestocks'.
And, one can only imagine how they treats those animals that doom to end up at our dinner table! So, let's reduce our meat consumption so as not to promote the growing of
these animal farms.
But how about, clearing jungle to allow for housing development and planting crops? Yes, these inadvertently disturb the ecology & we end up with monkeys ransacking our kitchen for foods, worst is the authorities called to shoot these poor "don't know anything, why you shoot me' creatures.
So as manikineko said it, we human are the greatest threat of the earth ecology; over population is a factor but I like to add here the main reason is we are greedy & never had enough until one day it's too late to fix it.
Reduce animal farm by consuming less meat.
Eat moderately whether meat or veggies. This will reduce our food consumption over demand, thus preventing land clearing.
We say we are overpopulated, we need more houses! But why houses in many areas left abandon & not being occupied? Guess it comes back to our greediness ~ build many can sell many can make tons of money! At the end, the greed eat us up & we ended with tons of debts!
So let's stop scarify our earth, or else nature will revenge against us.
