Cookie, adopted puppy returned after one year – for adoption again now (Nandhini’s)

Nandhini was very upset yesterday. She rescued 11 puppies from an Indian temple in Klang last year, we sponsored their vaccination and subsequently, she got them adopted one by one. Cookie was one of them.

Yesterday, Cookie’s adopter informed Nandhini that she wanted to send Cookie to the SPCA because he keeps chewing on things in the house and that has cost her a lot of money.

Nandhini is now looking for another adopter for Cookie. Please help by forwarding this link.

Here is Nandhini’s story:

Hi kah Yein
This is Cookie
He was adopted back in March when he was cute and small. The owner failed to train him and finds him a nuisance now. i.e chewing on everything
I have visited her many times and even bought Cookie chew toys. But I guess Cookie was never her family member.
She drop me a sms on Sunday morning stating her decision to surrender Cookie to the shelter tomorrow.
Attached is Cookie’s photo when he was 3 months old and now when he is nearly 1 years old
I have lost all my courage to rescue and rehome another animal. I feel totally responsible for dissapointing Cookie.
The owner was so sweet when I met her and promised me that she will take good care of the dog when she adopted him from me.
Please help to spread the word
I can only hope for a miracle now to find Cookie a home
Thank You
Nandhini

Cookie, last year, before adoption.

Cookie now, returned by owner.

This is the plight and one of the greatest nightmares of rescuers – when the adopter returns the animal after many months. In Cookie’s case, it is after nine months.  I empathise with Nandhini’s predicament and feelings of frustration. But perhaps the consolation is that at least the adopter informs her, instead of just dumping poor Cookie somewhere. I’ve had adopters in the past who completely disappeared from the face of the earth. They don’t answer smses, calls or emails. And they don’t even live in the same place anymore. And you’d just wonder what has happened to the animal you have so lovingly fostered. That’s when you have to let it go and just hope for the best.

For now, shall we help Nandhini look for an adopter for Cookie?

  1. Poor Cookie but I am grateful the adopter informed nandhini of her intentions! I too have had adopters dump their pets in the middle of nowhere without warning or disappear and I will forever wonder about the fates of my foster babies. I always tell adopters, if things don’t work out, please return the pet to me.
