Change, they say, is the only constant in our life. Change and death, I suppose. All else remains an uncertainty.
Days ago, Lee’s friend was so sure he wanted to adopt the Siberian Husky, but this morning, Lee told me he wasn’t sure anymore. Apparently, he has some things to take care of first.
But Lee had already made arrangements with the owner to take over the dog today itself, so Lee texted for help if we could find an adopter for the husky in the event that her friend does not want the dog. Lee had also planned to take the dog to the vet’s immediately for a medical check-up.
So now, the friend is not sure if he wants to adopt the husky.
Oh gosh…we can only blog for adopters (with no guarantee) or Lee could put the pet profile up of PetFinder.my. Other than that, we could ask if PAWS would take in a husky (that would be the last resort).
But Lee was determined to take the husky from the owner since the owner had threatened to throw the dog out to the streets. I forewarned Lee that she may have to adopt the husky should all contingency plans fail. Once we take over any animal, we must always be prepared to adopt the animal should we fail to find an adopter. Otherwise, we surrender the animal at the shelter, subject to shelter policies.
The husky, now named Fifi, is in Lee’s house now, and Lee says she is in good health, is well-behaved and calm. But she is kept outdoors now because of excessive shedding.
Fifi, after a walk this evening.
This was what I had asked for from the owner – just a photo so that I could blog for adopters, but the photo never came. Sigh..seems like throwing her out on the street would be easier than snapping a photo with the hp and mms-ing it to me.
Imagine what would happen to this poor dog if Lee had not taken her in? Her owner was going to throw her out the very next day and her reason was that she had no time to look after her anymore. Gosh…I really don’t know what to say, except this:
Thank you so much, Lee. You must be Fifi’s guardian angel.
If Lee’s friend does not want to adopt Fifi, Fifi will be up for adoption. Fifi has also been spayed.
Take a look at Fifi – countless of young Siberian Huskies are sent to our local vets by their owners, to be euthanised because they could not look after them anymore.
We appeal to everyone who wants to adopt or has adopted an animal:
1. Please find out what it entails to look after an animal (for life) before adopting one.
2. In the event that you cannot look after the animal anymore, please find another home for it.
That’s really the very least we can do for the animals whom we have taken responsibility for.
Updates at 8.45pm – I have just spoken with the manager of PAWS. He said it is very easy to rehome a husky these days as they are in big demand. I have informed Lee that should she have no choice (her friend does not want to adopt and we fail to find adopters), at least she has this option of surrendering Fifi to the shelter for adoption.
I had earlier told the middle-person that the owner could surrender the dog to the shelter for adoption, but the owner, apparently, was not willing to pay the surrender fee.

My boyfriend would love to have a Husky. But we already have 2 dogs, and that’s about maximum that I can take care of. Eeek!
I might have some friends in KL who are interested too. Will spread around.
Yes, am spreading the news around Kah Yein. Tell Lee to hold on! I wish I could adopt her but I can’t afford to keep a dog financially 🙁
And I sure have some comments for the ex-owner (which is not suitable for public ears) … but I do have one comment! Not willing to pay the surrender fee???? You are willing to buy the dog (I assume she bought it) but not willing to pay the surrender fee??? (and the rest is censored!)
May I know if Siberian Huskies need any special care or treatment? Are they garden dogs, and do they need constant cooling down?
Pardon my ignorance, as I’m not familiar with Siberian Huskies.
Thanks.
Pravind, please do a word search on “Siberian Husky” on this blog or on google.com and you read all about how to care for them.
I quote from you – “Once we take over any animal, we must always be prepared to adopt the animal should we fail to find an adopter”. I agree 101%. The shelter is the LAST(X10000000) option.
My uncle adopted/rescued a Husky last year. The dog was kept tied up/chain up on the telephone pole outside the owner shop!! Husky? Outside the shop? Tied up? In the hot sun?
Thank goodness the husky is safe and having a great life with my uncle and family.
Fifi, Lee, Dr. Chan, hang on. I have one contact who is keen. Can only revert later tonight to confirm.
Dr. Chan,
it’s a sad plight that people throw pedigree out on the street when they no longer want them.
There’s once a golden retriever @ my taman who sleeps under a van and looks for for everywhere like a stray. The goldie walks with a limping leg. I always feed her when I walk my dogs @ the padang nearby. The GR was with a choke chain that I thought she belongs to somebody. However, nobody claimed ownership of the goldie when I asked around. Thankfully, a kind neighbour rescued and rehomed her.
Another friend of mine adopted a GR which they’ve rescued from the street while on their way home one night. The GR when found, was whimpering, searching for food and has a really bad odour. My friend took pity on her and took her back. She had a very bad skin condition which required her to be on medication for a few weeks and her body to be shaved. Now, the GR has recovered beautifully with her new owner…
Do you still remember Do Do? The dog that I blog for adopter a few weeks back? She too, was found around my neighbourhood without any fleas/scratches. I believe that she was a pet before and dumped. I am happy that she’d been adopted by a family that loves and dotes on her now after two failed attempts to rehome her….
I am really inspired together with your writing skills as well as with the format to your blog. Is that this a paid subject or did you customize it your self? Either way stay up the excellent high quality writing, it’s uncommon to look a nice blog like this one these days..
