UPDATES on 31st January:
Dear Friends,
It is now 6.00am, 31st January.
The Sunsuper Dreams Contest will end at 3pm (M’sian time) today. We are now, thank heavens, leading by more than 1000 votes.
The last few days of this contest has been a roller-coaster ride for us. Those who have followed our progress know what it has been like. Suffice to say that this contest has reminded me what our world is like – full of imperfections and full of tests, but also full of hope and cheer, if we make it so for ourselves.
What our world is like is how we make it to be and how we perceive what goes on in it.
We hope justice will prevail at the end and the dream with the most legitimate votes will win. Whichever this dream may be, we rejoice with its success. May it be for the Australian stray animals, the bear cubs in the U.S., the children of Kenya or our own stray animals, may the best dream win.
We have another 9 hours more of voting to go, and then the contest ends and I’m told the organisers will do a final audit before declaring the winner.
Before that happens, please allow me, first of all, to thank everyone with all my heart, who has supported us and helped us, by voting and forwarding our link tirelessly for the last 30 days, giving us moral support all the way, especially when we were trounced!
Second, as I’ve said, this journey has touched me deeply because I never expected the tremendous outpouring of support from everyone, even total strangers. I am very moved and humbled by it all, and I am extremely grateful.
Third, if you still have not voted, please vote! We have another 14 more hours and believe me, every vote counts!

And finally, even if eventually we lose the battle, we have already won the “war”, so to speak. So may I celebrate now, our “victory” in knowing that we have so, so many friends who would stand by us, comfort us and cheer us on no matter what. Your support means the world to us, and this “prize” is something no one can take away by whatever means.

A vote for us is a vote for the many, many stray animals not only in Malaysia but everywhere because it is not only about the money which will definitely help us for the next few months but more importantly, the publicity generated may encourage and inspire other individuals to start a similar programme in their own community and help the animals there.
AnimalCare was started by me, an individual, and is currently run and managed by me with the help and support from friends, well-wishers and readers of this blog. The fact that AnimalCare has reached out far and wide with its message of compassion for animals and by example of practising CNRM as a compassionate way of managing the stray population shows that it does not necessary need a big corporate organisation to make a difference. Every individual with a passion can make a significant difference, with hard work and commitment.
It is hoped that the publicity generated from this contest (and hopefully from the prize!) will encourage more individuals to live their dream, make it happen and do good for the community.
If we do win this contest, it will be a big boost to no-kill animal welfare in Malaysia. Imagine a Malaysian charity winning a contest that is open to worldwide charities, and all charities at that (humans, animals, plants, etc.).
Also, IF we win, we will use the prize money to help, not only those animals who come under us, but also those managed by other NGOs and independent rescuers which we’ve worked with and which practises the no-kill policy. We will reach out as widely as we can.
But first, WE NEED THE VOTES!!

There are 4 cats in our condo’s yard which I feed them regularly. Recently I have decided to spay/neutered them and do some health checkup but it seems too expensive for a student kind of life. Just wanna know if your community can help me in this job or else where can I get help? I don’t like to see them injured or pregnant again.

We are back to Number 1 position but the 2nd position isnt far behind.
We need lots of votes this week because a lot of people will be going home next week for the Chinese New Year holidays and may not have access to internet.
I have already emailed to several hundred people and hopefully they will forward the email to more friends.
But please do not vote more than once – this is a violation of the rules and we can be penalised including disqualification from the contest.

Yes, Facebook user can post on their own wall & also manually post it on their friend’s wall. I’ve done that last week & it took me almost 1 hour to finish posting on 100+ friend’s wall. But make sure to remind them to check their wall, cos I have a few friends that not aware about it until I ask them to check 🙂

We now have 870 votes more than the nearest contestant. But I noticed the votes are slowing down a bit.
On Wednesday, we had an average vote of 14.5 votes per hour. Yesterday, we only had an average vote of 11.41 votes per hour.
The decrease is probably because many people have gone back to their hometowns. We need to push our lead to beyond 1000 votes(if possible) by the end of today. I anticipate the voting to slow down over the next few days because of the long public holidays next week.

Those travelling back to their hometowns for CNY can also ask their relatives and friends to vote, all they have to do is provide AnimalCare website address and find the info on how to vote. Or if there is a computer with internet connection in the house they are in, why they can help their friends and relatives to log on and vote. I am already asking my younger relatives via Facebook to vote by giving them the info, even before I meet them this Sunday evening for the reunion dinner. Piggybacking on kttan’s idea, we can bring our laptop computer to a cafe (eg Starbucks) with wifi facility and ask the people there to register their votes.
Then tell them to go home and open the email from Sunsuper Dreams in their own mailboxes and confirm their votes.

About 11pm, I tried again and the Sunsuper website came back on.
(Creating classroom for Kenyan kids) will probably be No.2 by the afternoon today (Jan 22) or even in the late morning, as it is catching up on the current No.3 and No.2 very fast. A couple of hours ago, I even saw it hit 50 extra votes in just less than 15 minutes.
Yes, it looks bent on winning and it will, if we don’t get our votes up. We have to work very hard now.
It is an unfortunate situation that we are in now. Because of the CNY holidays, people are not reading their emails. Some of them will probably start to read their emails from Tuesday onwards when they are done with the CNY chores.
We need other avenues to publicise the contest and get people to vote for AnimalCare.
These are some of the things we can do to help:
a. Distribute flyers to our neighbours
b. Ask our newspaper vendor to distribute the flyer to its customers
c. Distribute flyers to strangers and tell them about the contest
d. Send smses to friends – but send only after Monday so that you dont compete with the thousands of CNY smses.
This is a call to all those people who have benefited from Animalcare’s assistance over the past 2 years. Come and help AnimalCare win the contest so that it can use the prize money to help more dogs and cats.

Apparently, the organisers are deducting the Kenyans’ votes again (for the fourth time). Let’s hope everyone plays by the rules and fairplay prevails.
