Sad reflections on the untimely demise of the loyal dog in Penang

Ref: http://animalcare.my/2012/02/05/sad-end-to-two-loyal-dogs-in-penang/

So previously, 2 dogs were euthanised in Penang because they attacked a tourist in the course of doing their duty in protecting their territory. Never mind what they were doing, never mind intention, they killed a man, so they were sentenced to death for it. They were dogs. They had no chance to speak up for themselves. Sounds like plain old bullying of the defenseless, if you ask me.

Now, this loyal dog is euthanised because….? Apparently, it was old and sickly and there was no home for it.

Animals aside, let’s look at how we humans run our human world…

We know certain countries still implement the death penalty for murderers (willful killing with unwholesome intentions, not in self-defence and not in ignorance). Will it come a time when humans will implement the death penalty for old and sick people who are homeless? Like in certain Latin American countries, a secret squad goes around shooting the homeless because they are a nuisance, a pest. Sounds familiar?

Will the human race come to that one day?

We hope not.

There is hope in countries that have banned the death penalty (like in Thailand). But the other day, I read that a politician-hopeful in a state in the U.S. is advocating public hangings as a deterrent for would-be criminals.

Goodness gracious, and I thought humans are progressing morally and spiritually and that we no longer need to use FEAR as a deterrent but we use reasoning, education and draw out the compassion in them. Looks like I’m wrong in this department.

FEAR is still needed. It looks like we are heading back to the dark ages where people were burnt at the stake and heads were lopped off in the marketplace?

Sad world, if you think about it.

But let’s get on with our work in saving the animals.

Spay-neuter, friends. Let the would-be animals NOT be reborn on our doomed Earth, but let them be reborn elsewhere where there is compassion and justice to their kind.

This Earth is rotting.

Yes, Kah Yein. These kinds of news really make me worried about the mentality of Malaysians in power. Screwed up priorities. Another example take the recent news about punishment for firecrackers http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2012/2/3/nation/10665197&sec=nation, and compare the news about punishment for animal cruelty http://thestar.com.my/metro/story.asp?file=/2010/4/19/central/6079740&sec=central, and it makes you wonder!

I did not want to read the links you posted because just reading your post already sad enough without all the glory details.

Perhaps there need to be more promotion of your work, Kah Yein, in Penang and other locations outside of KL/Subang? I saw many sad things in Taiping as well. Somehow, so little ‘heart’ for anyone but self. Seems to me. Parents would watch kids kicking kittens (on 3 occasions I yelled at the kids and the parents just looked on. Imagine I only managed to go home to Taiping 3 times in the past 10 years!).

Attitude and cultures have to be educated different and changed. I think we need to connect all the dots (I know there are many kind hearted people all over Malaysia doing their parts for the animals … Meiji, Imm and some folks I know back in Taiping), but I think a better coordinated efforts have more power.

    Let’s keep working !!

We live in a scary and cruel world. They still behead people in public in Saudi Arabia and in Iran they also hang people in public places. I once saw a video of a beheading of what is supposed to be an Indonesian maid in Saudi Arabia (Not for the faint hearted). In Iran, crowds will turn up for hangings and use their handphones to videotape the event and some of it gets on the internet. I saw a video once and the executioners were very cruel, one of them appear to reposition the noose on a woman’s neck so that she will die slowly and will be kicking away while dangling in the air and the crowd will cheer. Only humans will be this cruel when it comes to killing, while wild animals will only kill for food to survive.

Ya, I agree it is a cruel world out there. I dont know what our present world is coming to….I hope, like you that those would be animals would not be reborn into this world. If there is reincarnation, I dont want to be reborn here. Not only people are cruel to animals, they are also cruel to other humans. The strong ones pushed the weaker ones to the brim. They dont care about others as long as they get what they want. Sad scenario.
