DT just texted to say her vet just informed her that Gandhi-George passed away moments ago.
We are deeply saddened to hear this and we extend our deepest condolences to DT and Gandhi’s rescuer, Choy-Foong, who is currently back in the U.S.
As I would always say, time is relative and lifespan is predetermined by something higher than all of us. Whatever remaining time Gandhi had, it was made beautiful by DT who immediately took on the task to provide him with all the medical care needed, and even saved both his legs. The night Choy-Foong sent the S.O.S., I texted DT and the very next morning, there was already a message from DT which said, “Yes, I will be happy to adopt Kitty” (that was his name at that time). That was knowing that Gandhi (Kitty) might have to lose both legs.
Gandhi (renamed by DT) was given the best possible veterinary care, had a surgery successfully performed to repair his legs and was thriving, until suddenly, today, DT received the devastating news that Gandhi had contracted a fatal virus.
It was the deadly feline parvo-virus, which causes Feline Panleukopenia.
Gandhi, being a street kitten, did not even have a chance to be vaccinated yet. Perhaps the parvo-virus was already dormant in him and it chose to rear its ugly head now.
There are some things we cannot change and some that we can, and we need the serenity and wisdom to know the difference, the energy to do our best and to let Nature decide on the bigger things in life.
We thank DT for giving Gandhi-George a good life. Time is relative, and Gandhi had a good life where he was preciously cared for.
May Gandhi-George be in a better place now; whole again, free from all suffering, on Rainbow Bridge.

Deepest condolences to DT, can feel the pain 🙁 Stay strong.Hugs
Fly free, sweet, brave boy. I shall always remember you, and how trusting you were as you snuggled in my arms, in spite of the pain you must have been in. Please send peace and healing to your grieving mommy DT, and whisper your love into her heart. May you always feel her love, and she, yours.
Crying for the passing of this poor baby, but I know he is in a much better place now. He fought a good fight, had a rough life, but in the end was able to feel safe and loved by a bunch of wonderful people. DT and Choy Foong, I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you both for caring and loving this boy. Fly free Ghandhi.
Oh, it’s so sad to hear this, but there is comfort in thinking about all the kind people who tried and succeeded in finding medical care and a loving home for this little kitty. I’m glad that his last days were filled with love and attention and hope.
Fly free sweet Ghandi-George. Know that you were loved by so many across the world. I am glad that you knew love in your short life. My condolences to his new mom and Choy Foong who made sure he had the care he so deserved.
Was on the lookout for good news of Ghandi-George as we were suppose to take him from Choy Foong when she was sending sos to my girl (her classmate) who told her she could try your website and she got all the help at once. He had a good ending and is really free now. God bless all who has cared for him.
I am so very sorry. I was following his story and so happy Choy Foong found him and got him the helped and a loving bean to take care of him. For his short time, at least his life wasn’t all pain, he experienced true love and will forever be in our hearts.
Fly free sweet Ghandi, may you soar high and wide and land softly.
I am so sorry to see this news. I love the picture where he’s reaching up for a rub – it’s a moment of bliss for him – and I’m thankful for all of the caring individuals that showed him such love. That’s what he will take with him.
Kah Yein, more of my friends have posted msgs for DT and AnimalCare friends on my FB wall:
ET: fly free, gandhi-george, and condolences to all who loved him.
LB: I am so sorry to hear this. This kitty was very special to have touched so many hearts in a short time. I can only give thanks that so many people rallied around him to give him the love he deserved in his last weeks. Please let his mommy and his caregivers in Malaysia know that Gandhi-George will be missed by many. May he be at peace and in the company of friends at the Bridge, and may his rescuers know that he died surrounded by love.
SR: I’m so sorry. For you and for his new mom and for the vets who tried so hard to save him.
I too am glad that little George knew so much love before his passing. He went knowing that he was safe from the streets and loved. Doesn’t lessen the sadness at his passing but what you did for him was wonderful. He did not die on the alone on the streets.
Fly free, Ghandi-George!
DB: (((((hugs))))) to you and to the new kitty mom.
AH: (((((((((((WCF)))))))))) And his new Momma bean….So deeply saddened to read this. This little kitty I never met made a home in my heart the first I heard of him. I’m so incredibly sorry this happened, but also so happy that for whatever …time he had left he knew love, care and committment. And he wouldn’t have known any of that without your intervention in his story, WCF. Run free and far Ghandi-George and those wonderfuly healed legs you have… you were loved and will be missed…
I have been a silent reader of your blog for a long time now, and I feel a need to speak up. Whenever these things happen, people thank those involved, but in this case, they easily forget that it was you who made everything possible. It was you who stayed up all night to make the connections, get the adopter, arrange for everything to happen, yet nobody thanks you. I wonder what makes you go on day after day, doing this sort of thankless job. But I respect you for it very much. Carry on, and please inspire us, but take care of yourself. I’m afraid you cannot last much longer and the animals will lose an angel who works behind the scene day and night, 24/7, with no rest.
It’s ok, and thank you, Veronica. Doing charity IS a thankless job. I get my thanks from knowing that every day, we have done our best to help every single animal that comes our way, and in the process, we have helped their human as well! I shall last as long as I can, and only for that long, however long that might be.
