Case 1 was the one where the Spitz had been thrown out by the neighbour and this lady was trying to get help for the poor dog. She just rang me an hour ago to say she had failed to catch the dog (her plan was to catch it and get PAWS to collect). However, she says there is another family down the road who is interested to adopt this dog and has been feeding it for a week now. But the dog is still not friendly to them.
I said it might take a little longer, but let them continue feeding and hopefully the dog will take to them and all’s well that ends well.
However, this lady said she would prefer to surrender the dog to the SPCA for a medical check-up and treatment, then ask the family to go adopt the dog from the SPCA.
???
I strongly discouraged her from doing that. I said I would suggest to let the family down the road continue feeding the dog, make friends, and let them adopt the dog. They can then send it for medical treatment, if any is needed.

Catching the dog (and who is going to catch it?), sending it to the SPCA and adopting it back – sounds like a merry-go-round. The dog is currently in a familiar neighbourhood and does not seem to be in any immediate danger, so why relocate it and created more stress for it? It’s already getting food daily from the family down the road.
Spitz dogs may have a tendency to be a bit snappy, so it might take awhile before they trust the family and be friendlier to them.
For that matter, Cow still bites if we annoy him, and he has been with us for 6 years now, rescued at birth! It is sometimes the character of the animal. Cleo also doesn’t tolerate any nonsense from anyone. She bites, too. And she’s our only bumiputra, born in Ming-Yi’s wardrobe. Like uncle, like niece!

Patience and love will lead the way…….Why not get the so called “owner” to catch the dog and bring over to the other neighbour’s house who’s interested to adopt it?
Yea, can the owner help this LITTLE BIT at least? Won’t cost a cent, and will even help burn some calories catching the dog and walking that few steps down the road to the other neighbor’s place. Good for the owner, and great for the doggie. I would say PLEASEEEE???

I think one needs to pay a fee when the dog is surrendered to SPCA. The adopter then needs to pay an adoption fee when the dog is adopted.
Exactly…sounds quite unnecessary to me!
Why or why are the animals always the victim?
It takes time to befriend dogs or cats, be it stray or abandoned by owners.
Am currently feeding a stray tomcat who comes to my back yard every morning. Took awhile to get close to him. Before, he would only eat after I walk away and away from his sight. Now I can be about 3 feet away from him while he eats.
In case 1, we need to gain animals’ trust before we can help them. And that takes time and patience.
Mr G took 2-3 weeks before we gained his trust and confidence. Now, he comes into the house. Initially, despite feeding him, he still hissed at us. Now, he has claimed custody of us – rubs himself on our legs!! On the other hand, Cleo does not trust us 100%, still on the defensive at times!!
