If the Pulau Ketam incident was a tragedy for dogs, I think this would be a tragedy of similar a magnitude for cats.

Cruelty to animals need to be seriously addressed in this country. For some, education works – slowly but surely. For those whom education cannot reach, stricter penalty is definitely needed as a deterrent.

  1. reena kong

The fines and penalty would not have a deterrent effect against the duo or any other future abusers. The fine of RM200/- and/or a maximum of 6-months jail term are meaningless compare to the injuries & suffering caused to the cats and their owners; and the profits they made.

I have read so much in the newspaper that shoplifters are fined up to RM10,000, and under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft, which carries a maximum jail sentence of 10 years!

The Section 44(1)(d) of the Animal Act 1953 needs to be revised to reflect that abusing animals is a serious CRIME.

  2. You are right. Harsh punishment is a must in Malaysia
