My neighbourhood security guard rang the doorbell just now. He brought an elderly Malay man over and he was carrying a basket.
Apparently, an iguana had wandered into his back garden and it looked like a lost pet, so he captured it with the hope that the owner can be traced before the poor thing wandered further or got lost.
If you know of anyone in the SS18 area who has lost a pet iguana, please ask him/her to contact En Buyung (010-2771271) or Pn Lola (012-2047753) to retrieve their pet immediately.
Or, if you’d like to adopt the iguana, please contact them as well.
En Buyung plans to take the iguana to Zoo Negara if no one claims it.
He was so scared, he had urinated and defecated inside the basket.
I lent En Buyung a cage so that the iguana would have more space to move about.
En Buyung wanted to know what to feed it, so I googled and found out that iguanas are herbivorous and they eat vegetables like turnip, carrot tops, etc. They also need fresh water. I contacted Pn Lola and she said the iguana loves to be sprayed with water.
Updates at 5.50pm: I contacted PAWS and they said they do take in iguanas and will get them rehomed. So, I’ve passed this message to Pn Lola as an alternative to surrendering the iguana to the zoo.
Updates on 24th June, at 5.40pm – En Buyung said a few people had called up expressing interest to adopt the iguana so we may well be able to find him a home without having to surrender him to PAWS. Meanwhile, another neighbour said she had seen this iguana wandering around for 2 months already, sometimes inside a drain. Poor little guy. We hope someone would give him a good home soon.

I have to laugh … not being unkind … I just hope NO ONE is going to bring you an elephant!
Just a suggestiong: perhaps some newspaper covering the base of the cage?
I think one needs a license from Jabatan Perhilitan to keep an iguana but there are people out there who ignore the ruling.

If you live near Zoo Negara, the possibility of tigers and elephants dropping into your house will go up.
Errr… There is a monkey on top of my mango tree last Thursday. Don’t think he is lost pet though. He ran helter-skelter towards the playground after my dogs barking profusely ~ direct translation as per the dog-human dictionary “Intruder alert! Intruder alert!”. Poor monkey, the mango not ripe yet.
That’s a big iguana. Judging from the size, I think it’s about 3 years old? Mum’s friend used to have one until it got too big.
I have a mango tree too but it’s the civet cats that are going after them. Don’t know where they come from as there’s no hills or forest nearby. They walk along the rooftops. They will go after the mango when it’s a little ripe.
My rabbit will be the first to sound the alarm. She’ll rush in thumping her leg then we know we’ve got a “visitor”. They’re not scared of people. They’ll take their time to climb down or jump over to the neighbours.
