Taking care of an adopted cat who became blind, Fang (Nurul Firdaus Rahidin’s)

Nurul Firdaus adopted a cat from one of the cat adoption drives some months back. Unknown to her, this cat came with a lot of health problems and Nurul has been coping and taking good care of the cat, named Fang.

Fang has other problems as well, but Nurul is undeterred by it all. Though it is not easy, having to cope with one problem after another, Nurul carries on, giving all she can, for Fang’s wellbeing.

On 27th June, Nurul’s family brought Fang to our vet for a follow-up after the previous treatment:

I have sent Fang’s urine sample to Healing Rooms and the result shows that Fang have kidney problems , they suggested  boarding for 3 days for dripping and supervision, blood test and then after getting the blood test result they will decide the further treatment or whatever Fang’s need… From what I have observed Fang’s did drink excessively after last medication.. and now he’s eating but in a little amount… sometimes he just drinking for 5 minutes…. and also he seems that he couldn’t retract his penis and it’s exposed all the time …

On 29th June, something unexpected happened to Fang. He became blind suddenly…

Fang become blind suddenly, total blindness and it’s freaking him out when I saw him accidentally stepping on his kibbles , bumping his had to the wall and couldn’t find his water….

I just realized that he’s blind when he couldn’t find his litter box( taking a very long detour to the box, wondering around) . And I was so shocked to see his dilated eyes…

He’s okay, I sleep with him last night, he managed to his litter box, eat his kibbles and drinks without me assisting him… He looks like he can see , seems normal, but he failed to search his sleeping basket when I moved it a bit farther than the usual spot ( got him)he also hang around at  his usual spot today. Maybe he actually start having this eye problem since we adopted him, but to see him become blind suddenly really scares me… I know he’s scared too, because I thought he’s going to have seizure last night when he hunched his back and start to lift his front paw simultaneously ..( and it’s scary to watch him do that)..I was crying too at the same time, so possibly I make him more scared… So I calmed down and scoop him up, and then rearrange his food plate and drinking mug at places he wanted…. He’s been able to find them this morning….

He’s okay now, I saw him jump over our sofa to get to the arm rest for a few times now without fail.(his favourite hangout)….He’s not confident on jumping into our lap yet. We scoop him up if he’s near us or whenever he wants a cuddle from us…..

This morning before going to work I shake his kibbles Tupperware and he was running like he wasn’t blind at all, yet 15 minutes before he was walking and couldn’t find his ‘route’ because I blocked his ‘gps ‘ with my bag.

I was happy that we decided to adopt him before, looking at his condition now I don’t know what will happened to him if we didn’t do it. By looking at his personality and the way he carries himself with us makes me wonder how his previous owner treats him. He’s not feral since his toilet trained is superb and when he’s blind he went to his litter box without fail and plus he didn’t scratch on furnitures….He’s a blessed to us….

We are living day by day with him, and we love him now as we are before.. only now he is fully pampered by all of us … He’s 8 years old now, we are cherishing everyday he with us…
