Subject: The animal vote -Philippines
To: chankahyein@gmail.comHi Dr Chan,My friend from phillipines shared this on her facebook and the moment I read it I thought of you.http://www.rappler.com/life-and-style/28208-is-there-a-pet-friendly-vote
Alicia
MANILA, Philippines – I have always wondered what it would be like if we could elect officials to government who are what I like to call “pet-friendly?”
I am well aware of the fact that there are many problems that ail our beautiful country–yet, as far as I know, people are better people if they treat their animals well.
Spot on! “People are better people if they treat their animals well”!
I totally agree.
So, have you spoken to your elected representative? You’ll never know until you’ve tried. I’ve spoken to mine for the last 3 years but we could not get them to spare our ear-notched animals. The closest and the “best” we’ve got was a passing statement that said if we could get our residents’ association to agree not to call the animal catchers, the council would certainly consider the request. But first, can we get the majority vote from our respective residents?
See this: http://animalcare.my/2012/10/07/a-chat-with-an-mpsj-councilor/
I’ll certainly be speaking for the animals again this time because we have a new parliamentarian in Mr Wong Chen. I don’t know if he is animal-friendly, but he has agreed to at least listen to my views. That’s a start, isn’t it?
Suggestions on what each of us can do:
1. Speak to your elected representative to spare our ear-notched animals. That would be our first request from them.
2. Spread the message of kindness to animals to your neighbourhood and friends. Introduce CNRM. Get my “Here for a Reason” books. It’s for free distribution. We’ve just reprinted a new batch: http://animalcare.my/free-books/
All my cats are “products” of CNRM!

Dr. Chan,
Sad but true…. the whole process starts from near home…. the neighbours. If our neighbours dont like animals… it’s gonna be an uphill battle. Usually, if the neighbours dont complain, the municipal council wont come a calling. But many a times, the problem also starts from home. It may not be that the neighbour dislikes animals…. just dont like the noise, smell, etc?. Well…. some things can be avoided… some cant. So…. I guess the actual work starts with understanding and be understanding to our neighbours.
It’s a no-brainer…. how could anyone not love animals? Well, it happens. Feelings and ideas molded from young, bad experinces, etc. Unless people are willing to open up, look at things both ways… it’s gonna be a steep mountain to climb. Still….never give up, right?
RIGHT! Never give up. The animals only have us to speak up and act for them. We are fighting the hardest battle and we have prevailed. We must never give up!
