The most incredible news of the day: Ongsan is getting better and now, adopted!!

I’ve had a past week of “difficult” cases, much of which are in dealing with “difficult” applicants. I don’t publish such stories anymore these days because (1) I’ve grown accustomed to the task of having dealing with them. (2) It’s the same old story again and again (demanding, unreasonable, dishonest, etc.). (3) I have learnt to look at these people as teachers of patience and compassion, so never mind them.  It comes with the job.

So, it comes as SUCH a welcome change when I received (just moments ago) the following email (please read for yourself and get ready to jump for joy!).

To new readers, it’s a follow-up from: http://animalcare.my/2013/05/30/updates-on-ongsan-its-cryptococosis-from-our-reader/ (Ongsan was rescued from the streets by Maslinda, brought to two vets who suggested euthanasia. Our anonymous reader took over the case by recommending Ongsan to her vet. She not only accompanied Maslinda on all visits but also paid for all the treatment. Maslinda fell seriously ill and Ongsan was boarded at the clinic. Our anonymous readers discharged Ongsan when he was ready and took him home for home-nursing. And now…a dream has come true for Ongsan, Maslinda and all of us who have been following Ongsan’s story…)

From our reader:

Dear Dr. Chan,

Love the new navy blue Speak Up t-shirts and the models too!

Ongsan is progressing well and the latest his nose is healing quite well. Now you can see that his nose is more prominent and he is a handsome fella. He started blowing clear bubbles from his nose instead of the thick yellow mucous. He can breath as normal now.

The only thing that puzzling his vet is that his hydration is not so good and she suspect that he has an underlying illness but she is not going to do any blood test just yet – treat the secondary symptoms first and do not worry about what the illness is or give it a label as she had been successful treating many seriously ill cats this way.

He is eating well too alternating between wet food, kibbles and drinking water and he loves it if it is from others bowl and he like big bowls. We let him out of his cage every now and then when we are in the room so he can strecth out and explore a bit. First thing when we let him out of the cage he went straight to Aslan’s scratch board enjoying scratching vigorously – so we got for him one in his cage – he loves it and even sleeps on it.  He also loves company and we sit and read and chill out as much as possible in his room. His loyal guardians Aslan, Riley and Gim Gim are always keeping him company and he is never alone at all time.

We have a bit of a news too. We has asked Mas and she has given us permission to give Ongsan a forever home and be part of our family; we are adopting him.

We felt it is best since his treatment is going to take time maybe more than 3 months and it is best that Ongsan felt assured and secured that he has a home. Ongsan is very sensitive to his environments and emotions and it might benefit his healing process if he don’t have to wonder where he is going to be next and we have told him the good news. Mas will keep in touch and will see Ongsan whenever she can.

Here are some snaps of Ongsan and his guardian Aslan.

Regards.

Hello, everyone!

Ongsan's view of nose

Oops…I have a zit on my nose!

Aslan Aslan, Ongsan’s loyal friend.

The leader of the pride is Aslan (just like the Chronicle of Narnia) and Morton (ex-sporo) peeps in once in a while to say hello to Ongsan and then speeds off from the room.. Morton is a funny guy, likes clowning around.

Aslan actually keeps any troublemakers e.g the insecure , jealous sprayer Tom Tom away from the room and very protective of Ongsan.

It was an easy decision for us. Mas has not been feeling well lately and Ongsan actually likes my hubby better than me.

I don’t know how to thank our anonymous reader for helping Ongsan and now, for adopting him into her lovely and loving home. Let us all say a prayer of thanks and wish our anonymous reader, her husband, her cats and Ongsan the very best of health and happiness in their lives together.

For me personally, I am so, so incredibly thankful that the Universe has brought together such wonderful and caring caregivers of animals and supporters of our cause through AnimalCare. Thank you, everyone. There will be no AnimalCare without all of you.
