Subject: A weak kitten
To: chankahyein@gmail.comHi
My son and I rescued a really weak kitten outside a coffeeshop. Initially we thought it is dead but I turned around and found it still breathing.
We put it in a box and took it home and fed it with lactose-tolerant milk we bought from the pet shop.
However, we have problems:
1. how to wash its dirty body that has cement bits stuck on its fur and it is smelly too?
2. we have 3 dogs at home who will shred the kitten into bits!
3. I am a low income single mum who cannot afford to keep another pet. Already I am trying to cut down food for my dogs. My son is still studying. I can keep this kitten until its well enough. But after that, I may have to release it. Pls help.
I live in Puchong.
Thank you.
Regards
Jaclyn
We advised that the cleaning up can wait as it’s not advisable to bathe or wet the kitten at this point in time because she might catch a cold. We also sent our link on fostering infant animals. Of course, we strongly advised Jaclyn to take the kitten to a vet for professional opinion. She can apply for our subsidy.

No worries. Yes, the reply helps. My neighbor who is a groomer has agreed to help me to clean the kitten up and trim its fur plus will throw in some cat food samples to me.From: Jaclyn Lim

To: Chan Kah Yein <chankahyein@gmail.com>Dr Chan,
The kitty had not been eating nor drinking any water and milk. Its last feed was at 2 pm before I left for work. When I return home at 11pm, the milk I left on a small plate was untouched. I discard the milk and replenish with fresh ones.
When I woke up at 7 am today, I noticed the milk is untouched also. I discard and replenish with fresh ones and threw in a few pellets of kitten dry food in it before I left for work.
However, I noticed it peed and there was watery discharge (faeces?).
Is this normal and should I worry?
On a brighter note, I opened the cage’s gate and the kitty did come up and walked up and down but lied down again.
The kitten has diarrhoea and this can be life-threatening. We advised Jaclyn to quickly take the kitten to a vet. We also advised her that milk can sometimes cause diarrhoea.

To: Chan Kah Yein <chankahyein@gmail.com>Vet said the kittten has flu, diarrhoea, worms, fleas and virus. Medications had been given and Frontline was sprayed.
Now just have to feed her with pets milk, water and liquid food 3 times a day with antibiotics.
Vet said 50-50 chance of survival.
This morning, at 7.20am:

The kitten still not eating nor drinking on her own. I have to feed her via syringe by force
Today is the 3rd day she is with me. She hates to be caged up and makes noise. I can’t release her cos my dogs are around. Dogs too had been barking a lot which is disturbing to the neighborhood. What shall i do?
The kitten needs an adopter. If anyone can help, please contact Jaclyn as soon as possible.
Thank you.

Milk is not necessary. Even if it’s supposedly supplemented with lactase or had the lactose removed, it can still cause diarrhoea. Try different types of canned food. It might have a strong preference for certain smells or flavours. A kitten doesn’t eat much so don’t worry about the cost for now. Keep it warm and dry. Warmer than room temperature can work wonders. You probably don’t have a warmer or ceramic heater but the parts of your home such as the kitchen will usually be warmer than the living room or your bedrooms so keeping it there might help.
Hi
Thks for advise. It’s not possible to put her in the kitchen as my kitchen and living room are one. My 3 dogs will be barking at the kitten and may cause distress to the kitten. She is locked up in a cage in my guest room. I go in every few hours to take her out of the cage so she can roam around the room. She now wags her tail when I walk into her room which is a bonus for me.
