Updates from Chen:
I took him to the vet this morning and found an MKA chip in him. The chip confirms that he was born in 2004 (9 years old)but healthy except for minor skin problems often associated with shih tzus. He is not mixed breed as I earlier thought. The MKA chip gave me only the breeder’s contact, whom I contacted. However, the breeder cannot find any records because she passed the puppy to a pet shop at that time. She still remembers the puppy well. And the pet shop did not keep any records and the person who bought him did not update his information on the chip. The breeder has been very friendly and helpful. Now I’m waiting to see if the breeder can give me the pet shop so that I can put up a Dog Found poster there. Maybe the owner is a regular customer there? The search continues! Please wish the little doggie best luck.

The breeder did a bit of research by calling up people she knows and called to inform that the pet shop is now not in existence and the pet shop owner is now no longer in the business and hence untraceable. Sad. Now hoping that the Dog Found posters I put up around my area works!

Got a call early this morning from the owner. She lives nearby and somebody forgot to close the door and he went out and got lost. She did not notice the posters earlier because she does not walk around the flats and park area. But her father took a morning walk to get newspapers and saw the poster at the park and she immediately contacted me. It was a very happy reunion. She did not even know that her dog got an MKA chip. I advised her to get the chip updated with her info in case something like this happens again. Thanks for posting!

Moral of the story – if you buy a pedigree dog and the dog got a MKA microchip, for goodness sake – please update the chip with MKA!
