Brother and sister team Kale and Aubry Walch just opened the Herbivorous Butcher, a vegan butcher shop in Minneapolis, Minn. Offering small batch “meat-free meats” and “cheese-free cheeses” made from locally sourced ingredients, the Herbivorous Butcher calls itself the first vegan butcher shop in America.

While faux meat (fake meat) is not ideal and neither is the term “butcher” being associated with vegan foods, it’s still a good start to get people to eat less meat. The tongue, the eye and the brain still need to be satisfied. After all, to many, eating is still a pleasurable activity.

We hope to see more herbivorous “butcher” shops sprout! Hopefully, by different and more animal-friendly names.
