Paws, who will also be the project’s facilitator is expecting this programme to kick off some time by end of April.

To qualify for this subsidy, pet owners or animal rescuers must be Selangor born citizen and all neutering must only be done at vets in the state.

“This project is strictly for Selangor born only and as much as we want to make this available for everyone, we cannot provide 100% and just do as best we can with the funds,” he said.

Lim further explained that this funding is from the Selangor government and it is only appropriate if the money goes back to Selangor born residents.

However, he hopes that other states will follow suit and implement this neutering subsidy programme to help reduce strays on the streets.

We are still swarmed with claims on a daily basis, mostly from Selangor too, so we are really looking forward to the start of the Selangor Neutering Subsidy.

    I think the Selangor govt should enforce a law first to stop catching stray dogs/cats that have been spayed /neutered from the streets. Most dog catchers only bother on the number of dogs they can round up so that they can earn more bucks. If there is no law protecting them, eventually they will end up in the pounds too. Then It will be a sheer waste of money, wouldn’t it?

      You are absolutely right. But the only people who can change a law are the politicians. Is any politician interested in taking this up?

      Right now, some of the animals whose neutering we sponsor are adopted while some are returned to colony. We can only hope that these animals will not be captured and if they are not, at least they won’t breed anymore.

      As for changing the law, we need a bigger voice so that politicians will listen to us. We have been saying that since before PRU13.

      Do we have a big enough voice now? We need numbers.
