Ginger seemed much better after the trip to the vet’s yesterday, with the Baytril injection and the nebulization done at the clinic. Either he’s a hypochondriac (“I’ve been to the vet’s so I’m already much better” – I know MANY human hypochondriacs, believe me – it’s called the Placebo Effect) or whatever that was done helped.
Of course I think it’s the latter. But humans says that 80% of healing IS placebo.
So, last night, I took out the nebulizer to figure out how to use it.

We figured that FINALLY, Ginger would be so pleased that he has “something” too. He’s been quite upset that he doesn’t get subcuts.

Luckily we have two pharmacists at home, so son-in-law, Yui Ping, helped me figure out how to use this and also to read the instruction manual (because the print is too fine for my aged eyes, I would have needed a magnifying glass). Apparently, the tube cannot be sterilised but the plastic parts of the container can be. And Germisep cannot be used (sodium hypochrorite), only certain sanitising chemicals can be used. I decided to use the old-fashioned way of boiling. So I boiled the parts and air-dried them.

Meanwhile, we are retraining Ginger to sleep inside the house now. He loves the patio but sometimes it’s just too cold at night.
This morning, it was time to start our first nebulization attempt.

Target in sight.

Ginger’s dosage is half a nebule of Ventolin in 3ml of saline.

Liquid in container.
Bring forth the target, please!!

Target in pod. Ready for procedure.

Turn on nebulizer.
I thought it wasn’t working because no fumes came out. But actually, we just had to wait a bit. The fumes finally came out.

Place outlet in door of pod.
Cover entire pod with large towel.
The vet said it should take 10 mins but for some reason, today’s attempt took 20 mins.
But no harm done.

Procedure completed!

Target is released.

Target runs away.

Since the nebules could not be resealed, we used clingwrap to seal them back.

I washed the plastic container and air-dried them. The whole gadget comes in a bag.

Ginger seems so much better today compared with yesterday when he was snorting and breathing heavily. He only coughed once today.
Meanwhile….

….Heidi has taken up possession of BOTH the pod (carrier) and the basket.

I thought those were mine?
Don’t worry, Ginger. Heidi will “change nests” soon.
So, the nebulization will carry on daily. What fun…. I’m just so glad we can do it at home. The vet said if any other cat has respiratory problems, it can be done for them too.
On a more serious note, I hope none of our cats need to go to the vet’s anymore during this MCO-period because the 10km ruling is now in force. It’s 14km to PJ from here. Luckily, the vets in Subang Jaya are still open.
