The big Bunny-Indy fight

I was awakened at 3am this morning by the sound of cat fight. It is quite common to hear the sounds of cat fights in the middle of the night, but it is usually the neighbourhood cats, but this sounded like it came from our house.

So, I went downstairs to check and found that it was a Bunny-Indy fight. There have been a few war cries between the two for a few days now, but I managed to stop them all before they escalated.

This time, I was too late. Bunny was inside the condo and Indy was right outside. There was a lot of blood stains on the cardboard in the condo as well as the floor. There was also quite a lot of thick blood in Bunny’s mouth.

It was quite a frightening sight.

Bunny was all tense up, so I decided to let him calm down first. I shooed Indy away.

Managed to check Indy and there was no apparent injury on him.

After a few minutes, I wiped away the thick blood from Bunny’s mouth. He was still quite traumatised. I think the blood was thick because it was mixed with saliva.

There was nothing much to do except to let both of them rest until morning. There was also no injury on Bunny’s body. Maybe his mouth or gums got scratched by Indy. Gums bleed quite easily.

By morning, there were no new blood stains.

Cow, Cleo and Indy ate their breakfast but Bunny hid in his tunnel and refused to come out. I later coaxed him out and he ate half his breakfast. He must be still very traumatised by the fight.

Bunny and Indy have been having issues in the condo. Bunny sleeps downstairs and Indy wants to get in as well, to sleep on the lowest shelf. But, Bunny is blind, so he must have thought Indy was trying to antagonise him when Indy approached the condo’s entrance. That’s just our guess, of course – we are just giving both the benefit of the doubt. It could have been something else as well, we will never know.

I decided to bring Bunny out to the patio so that he would feel safer, away from the scene of the fight.

This is his safehouse at the patio – we call it the Blue House.

Taking a nap.

The “perpetrator”, Indy, watching.

We have wanted to dismantle Pole’s condo for a few months now and replace it with the other condo since the bottom half of Pole’s condo had already rusted quite badly, but we didn’t do it because we were afraid Pole might not like the smell of the other condo. Now that Pole is gone and nobody uses the “upstairs” anymore and only the downstairs is used, it seemed like the right time to replace it. There are too many rusted metal parts.

So, we said goodbye to Pole’s condo, dismantled it and replaced it with the other condo (the one used by Minnie’s family). This one still has the doors intact. For Pole’s, we had already removed both the doors.

We set it up exactly as Pole’s condo, with the shelves in all the same height. Hopefully, this one will not rust so quickly. The rusting in the old one was all due to the alpha-spraying, that is why only the bottom half was rusted and not the top.

I still placed clean towels on all the shelves and I remember fondly how Pole loved clean towels. Each time they were replaced, she would be so, so happy and would take long naps on the top shelves. Maybe Cleo will use the top shelves in this one.

Meanwhile, I hope there is no major injury in Bunny’s mouth. He let me open his mouth too and I did not see any apparent injury inside. I gave Bunny Vetri DMG and Nutriplus Gel. Hopefully, he will eat his usual amount later.
