Bunny’s eye was seemingly improving slowly but it got inflamed again yesterday afternoon. I don’t know what happened as I was not at home for a few hours.
We went to the vet’s today. Bunny has also run out of the painkiller (Tramadol) and I really do not want him to be in pain. I know how painful eye ulcers of any eye problem can be.
The vet checked and apparently Bunny has what is known as a “melting ulcer”. The ulcer has spread wider now. It isn’t necessarily “worse”, but it covers a larger area now. The bacteria can eat up the collagen and cause the ulcer to spread to a wider surface.
The infection on the upper eyelid (the glands) hasn’t become worse too, but it hasn’t exactly improved either. So the vet is changing the antibiotic to Doxycycline. Bunny will continue with the eyedrops (stemcells) and add on Gentamicin eye ointment to be applied 15 minutes after the eyedrops (it is only for bacterial infections of the eye). The anti-inflammatory Beazyme will also continue for another 7 days.
Most importantly, Bunny needs to be on the e-collar (we had relaxed on this as we felt sorry for him). Bunny’s painkiller dosage has increased a little too (still transdermal Tramadol) from 0.15ml to 0.18ml now.
The vet also checked Bunny’s eye pressure just to rule out glaucoma. The pressure in both eyes is in the normal range (15 on the left and 12 on the right).

Poor Bunny Bun Buns. I hope the eye heals in time. The vet said that being FIV+, healing will definitely be slower. At least the painkiller will alleviate the discomfort. I really do not want him to be in pain, especially in the eye.
With the e-collar being compulsory now, I will give him strictly supervised grooming time (without the e-collar).
At the same time, I’m still battling with Bunny’s constipation problem. Bunny had diarrhoea a few days ago. Then, the stools normalized. Today, it was soft again. I think I will just have to adjust his Lactulose dosage accordingly. I’ve also switched Bunny back to Cubgrub as his staple food. Cubgrub has more water and will be better for him. On top of that, I’m also giving him more flavoured water in between meals.
It’s very challenging when Bunny has quite a few medical problems – constipation, urinary, kidneys, eyes.
