Yesterday, Sihui was patting Ginger and she felt a lump on his body near his thigh.
So today it’s off to the vet’s.
The vet said it’s really lucky that Sihui felt the lump because indeed there is a lump there.

The lump is where my thumb is.
An ultrasound scan was done and it is a cyst. From the scan, it looked black so it probably contained fluids. The vet took two samples of the “fluids” with a needle so that the contents could be examined under the microscope. To our relief, for now, it only contained fat cells and mesenchymal cells and there is no indication of any malignancy. The size is 2.5cm x 2cm. The cyst is also attached to the muscle. We’ll have to monitor if it grows. Hopefully, it won’t.
At the same time, since we were already there, the vet also took a urine sample from Ginger and did another ultrasound scan on Ginger’s kidney cyst (discovered last month). The urine test was all clear; there were no crystals, no protein and no bacteria. Ginger’s urine SG is 1.056 which is good. The ultrasound on the kidney cyst also showed that the cyst has stagnated, which is good. No further growth from what it was last month.
Back home…

…it was a long wait at the vet’s so Ginger deserves a good rest after the trip!
On a side note, Daffodil (Ginger’s mother) also had a large lump at her armpit towards the end of her life (she was 17 years old at the time). The first vet we went to insisted on operating it out, but luckily we consulted two other vets after that. Both vets said it should not be operated because the lump was connected to the muscle and if it had been operated, Daffodil would not have been able to walk. Daffodil was alright right up to the natural end of life where she passed away very peacefully.
