For those of you who have been following this blog, you might remember Indy’s 7-week bout with bloody diarrhoea (the stools had blood in them) in October-November 2019. At that time, I tried everything I was advised to, by the vet as well as well-meaning friends.
Nothing worked until I switched his diet to raw rabbit.
That stopped the diarrhoea.
But Indy has always had problems with gastrointestinal issues. Maybe it was a bad start in life where I rescued him from the drain as a little kitten, barely 1 month old, with bladder, ear and eye infections and a prognosis so bad that he barely moved for the first 2 weeks and the vet was quite shocked that he actually recovered.
Indy has come a long way since then. He is now 14 years old. But he still gets gastrointestinal problems every now and then.
For about two weeks now while I was trying so hard to solve Bunny’s diarrhoea problem (already solved now), Indy was also having loose stools. The difference between them was that for Bunny, it was a matter of life and death as he was losing weight too rapidly whereas Indy was still his robust self.
Still, while I was treating Bunny with Bioflor and the prescribed Clavamox, I also dewormed Indy and started him on Bioflor as well.
Bunny got well within a day being on Bioflor and Clavamox. Just one day, and the diarrhoea stopped completely.
However, it did not work so well with Indy.
Still, I persevered.
It took Indy 6 days before the diarrhoea stopped. I think the Bioflor did work, only that it took longer for Indy.
So as of yesterday, Indy’s diarrhoea stopped and his appetite improved.

Here’s Indy taking his morning after-breakfast nap in the condo.

Here’s what I gave Indy: Bioflor (Saccharomyces Boulardii) in the morning, Gentle Digest (to replenish the healthy bacteria in the gut) in the afternoon. Monge Monoprotein Rabbit (single protein) as often as possible. I could not get raw rabbit because Cubgrub had no stock and Indy also does not like raw food much these days, so I opted for canned rabbit.
In my untrained and unqualified opinion, since Indy had a chicken allergy before in 2019, that is why I opted to give him rabbit. It worked in 2019, so I hoped it would work again this time.
Well, something definitely worked!
Indy has been so hungry since yesterday. Now, that’s definitely a good sign.
