Riley Day 15, Gerald and Samantha

It’s as though Riley read my mind and that’s not surprising because cats can definitely read minds. Whether they want to respond or not is a totally different matter, of course.

So yesterday, we were a bit worried about Riley holing herself upstairs for two weeks, barely coming downstairs at all. Is she happy being indoors or does she want back her freedom as an outdoor kitten? My husband was thinking that it may be better to release her as a CNRM-cat if she cannot get used to living indoors. But Riley has a booster vaccination next week, so we will still have to wait until after that. Otherwise, I might not be able to catch her again for the jab.

Those were our thoughts last night.

This morning, Riley came downstairs on her own. Suddenly, she is making the initiative to socialise.

Her behaviour today is very different from previous days. She is really making the effort to socialise and behave more at home. Riley has fully transitioned to a 100% raw diet now.

She’s eating Cubgrub this morning. We have both Cubgrub and Coco&Joe’s, plus Primal Freeze-Dried.

Tabs is around to play Big Sister.

Riley even ate some Cubgrub dehydrated chicken treats (dental treats).

Outside in the porch, Samantha was there. She’s been eating a lot today.

Gerald also came with her. When Gerald comes, you won’t miss it. He will make his very, very loud announcements to ensure you know he’s here. Gerald demanded for canned food but Samantha only wanted kibble.

Gerald is so friendly he even allowed me to carry him. Is he someone’s pet? In my experience, I think he is. But the vet doesn’t think so because he was quite unkempt when I first caught him and took him for neutering. She says both Gerald and Creamy were no well-kept. They cannot possibly be pets. But truth be told, I’ve actually seen pets that are in worse physical condition.

I checked Gerald’s surgical site. It’s completely healed.

Creamy has not come yet. But he came many times yesterday. Creamy normally comes much later. Creamy also demands for canned food!

I get a vibe from Samantha that she wants to come into the house. And Samantha looks very much like Rosie. Not 100% alike, but very similar. I will do a collage later and show you the resemblance.

I did a very, very brave (almost stupid) thing. I carried Riley out to meet Samantha and Gerald. I know she could have easily pushed off from me (yes, a 2kg kitten is stronger than a 50kg adult human) and escaped. I took that risk but I held her on tight. But no, she didn’t bother to escape at all. Riley didn’t seem excited to meet Samantha as well. Everyone appeared nonchalant except for a bit of a curious look from Samantha.

So, Riley did not escape. We came back inside, safe and sound. She wasn’t even keen to go out to the porch.

Yesterday, I had planned to introduce Riley to Bunny’s Place or Ginger’s Catio. Between the two, maybe Bunny’s Place would be safer. I know Riley probably misses grass and soil. All animals prefer the natural environment. It’s also good for them. We just read that in Finland, they are building forests in daycares and exposure of the children to these forest environment increases their immunity. Ultimately, we are all animals and we do better in Nature. It’s just we, the not-so-smart humans, who built concrete jungles to live in.

To my complete surprise, Riley was very comfortable in Bunny’s Place! I thought she would flee, but no, she explored the place.

Tabs came in too.

I can give Riley play time in Bunny’s Place every day so that she has exposure to sunshine, grass and soil. Maybe later, I can introduce her to Ginger’s Catio. I don’t think the Monsters will bully her. They pick on cats their size.

Oh my, Samantha. You look so much like Rosie!

Here’s the collage:

Look at the markings! It’s like a mirror image, except for the eyes.
