Bunny had constipation for months before suddenly “switching” to diarrhoea. When he was chronically constipated, I tried everything I know of, and I finally had to resort to daily Cisapride and Lactulose for him.
After being “stable” for months, suddenly it switched to diarrhoea and this became a bigger problem. With the diarrhoea, Bunny started to lose considerable weight. He was losing protein through the diarrhoea.
The diarrhoea was the worse of the two evils. So I went on a rescue spree to address the diarrhoea issue.
To cut a long story short, what works now is all about adjusting Bunny’s probiotics.
Bunny is totally off his constipation medication already (of course!). So, no more Cisapride and Lactulose at all.
Now, it is all about adjusting the Bioflor and Gentle Digest on a daily basis.
Bioflor is the yeast-based probiotic specially effective against diarrhoea. Gentle Digest is a bacteria-based probiotic. The gut needs a balance of bacteria and yeast in it for optimal function. That is why the Bioflor leaflet says not to use more than 14 days. It probably does not want to cause an excess of yeast in the gut.
From whatever I have found out, there has to be more healthy bacteria than yeast in the gut.
So, what I do now is to watch Bunny’s daily stool output. If the stools are soft or pasty, then I give him Bioflor. Once the stools firm up, it’s back to Gentle Digest.
Whenever Bunny’s stools firm up, I notice that his demeanour improves significantly and so does his appetite.
Bunny is still on 125ml subcut five times a week for his dehydration problem.

I managed to convert all the Super Seniors back to 100% raw food for breakfast with the exception of Indy who has to eat Cindy’s pureed mousse food (baby food). Bunny is back to eating raw food now, but in between he gets kibble whenever he wants. For Bunny, since he is underweight, he gets food whenever he wishes. This means, Cow also gets.

Doing Bunny’s subcut.
