Last night, we had a bit of an episode with Samantha.
I discovered where she was hiding so I slid a bowl of food for her in her hiding place and she finished it all up. Since coming inside, I’m not sure if she ate anything because Riley was with her most of the time so Riley could have eaten the food. But last night, she definitely ate the bowl of food.
However, after that, we discovered that Samantha had urinated massively on the bed and my blanket. Well, I don’t blame her because she is a street cat and it is her first time spending so many hours inside a house. How would she know she has to use the litter box, right? This is especially when I did not confine her.
So we had to clean the bedsheet, protector, mattress and everything else, but we also decided Samantha should be confined upstairs in the two bedrooms with the adjoining bathroom, one of which is Riley’s room.
Getting Samantha out of her hiding place downstairs, to go upstairs and into the two bedrooms proved to be very chaotic and not easy at all, but with many trials and going up and down the stairs, we finally managed to do it. Tabs, unfortunately, was no help at all. Well, Tabs didn’t know what to do and she actually stood in the way, stopping Samantha from entering the rooms.
So, yes, it was total chaos. I sustained a blunt force trauma from Samantha’s paws when she jumped on my arm to run off in our mad attempt at getting her to go into the rooms.
Cats are stronger than humans.
Anyway, finally, we got Samantha into the rooms and she spent the night there.
This morning, I was woken up by Gerald at 3am. Gerald wanted to come into the house.
I went to check on Samantha and discovered she had used the litter box in the bathroom for urination and defecation! She is a fast learner, much faster than Riley. If you remember when we first caught Riley and kept her indoors, she held her urine for a day. She also didn’t know how to use the litter box so I had to put a box of soil for her and slowly added soil to cat litter before she understood what she was supposed to do.
Gerald, on the other hand, knew instantly what the litter box was for. How smart and intuitive of him, or is he actually a house pet?
Riley wanted to room in with Samantha this morning, so I let her in.

As you can see, Samantha has torn down the fiberglass netting from the side window, but the glass window is closed, so she cannot escape from there.
The problem with Riley is that she is a work-to-rule cat. She can only eat in her room, nowhere else. And she only uses her litter box in her bathroom (which is now also Samantha’s bathroom) so I don’t know if that’s going to be a problem. I already transferred her personal litter box and water bowl to outside the two rooms. Her toys are there too. And I placed her food bowl there as well but she did not eat. I think she will only eat inside the room in that exact spot. She’s so work-to-rule. She must follow her SOPs.
