12.00noon: Bunny just ate a can of food!

It’s unbelievable!

I was discussing with Bunny’s vet on whether Bunny would still need his Darbepoetin jab tomorrow, in his now unresponsive subconscious state. If it can help him feel better, I would want him to have it even if it means I have to pay for a house call.

So the vet asked me if Bunny’s gums are still has pale. Well, I thought they are now slightly pinker than last week, but my eye is untrained so I said I would take some photos for the vet to see. I was feeding Jayden at the time and alone with him. So after Jayden finished eating, I went in to take some photos and realised I could lift up Bunny’s lips. This morning too, I noticed Bunny tried to open his eyes.

Then the thought occurred to me, what if Bunny can still eat?

So after sending the photos to the vet including a photo of his very yellow urine (which I thought was a good thing), I got all my paraphernalia for feeding Bunny. But Jayden had finished eating and would require my 100% attention, how was I going to wing this?

Riley!

So I put Jayden on the beds where Riley was playing hide-and-seek with us earlier and I hoped Riley would keep Jayden occupied.

I got all my feeding paraphernalia and brought it into the room – that’s a can of Cindy’s pureed food, water, Brands’ Chicken Essence (yes! Bunny gets to drink this, after all), Bunny’s capsule of Prednisolone and Folic Acid plus two capsules of Bioresis (by the way, Bioresis has replied to my query and I will share that later). The rest can wait, I’ll try feeding Bunny these first.

And I did!

Bunny ate!!

Everything!!

Bunny ate the whole can of food plus everything else!!

I couldn’t believe it!!  Bunny can still eat!!

Then it dawned on me….oh no, this probably means Bunny actually could still eat yesterday but I thought he was comatose or later, the vet said subconscious. He did not react to anything at all, so I didn’t even think to try to feed him.

Oh no! I’m so sorry, Bunny. I did not know you could still eat. I’m so, so, so, so sorry….

But what’s done is done. Yesterday’s stupidity should not be carried forward to today.

Bunny can eat!!!

I know we shouldn’t celebrate prematurely. His condition is still critical.

It just means he can still swallow food.

I was also quite surprised when Bunny passed out well-formed stools this morning. Two small pieces, nugget-sized.

But Bunny isn’t exactly awake. His eyes are closed and he must be very weak.

Halfway feeding Bunny, Jayden realised I was gone, so he walked to the grille to look for me and wanted to come in. I opened the grille to let him in.

Jayden wanted to help and had brought along a gift for Bunny. It’s his Sudocrem. That’s very sweet of you, Jayden.

Jayden wanted to ensure Bunny received his present.

After this, everything was quite chaotic in the house with Jayden crying for attention. But luckily I had finished feeding Bunny by then.

Ok, now for the not-so-good news…

The vet said based on the photos I sent, Bunny’s gums are still pale. And the Darbepoetin jab will not help much. Also, based on the photos of the urine, the colour is “very yellow” and that’s not a good sign. It could be his liver or he is losing red blood cells at a fast rate. I see, I thought yellow urine was good. Just goes to show how much we don’t know and we just assume things based on a little knowledge which is a dangerous activity.

The vet said I should give Bunny the transdermal Tramadol twice a day as a painkiller. If it makes him more comfortable, I will. I just thought he didn’t seem to be in pain, but we will never know.

So it’s been quite a day!
